Yes the rooms / bathrooms can do with a bit of an update, the shower was a gentle trickle and the evening food was very 'pub' BUT the setting is fantastic and the staff couldn't do enough to help and were extremely friendly. The beds were comfy, towels soft and breakfast substantial to the point where I couldn't face eating until tea-time. The two connecting rooms we had were enormous and the views stunning. Would definitely return and will be ASAP.

Room Tip: Ask for options when booking as a family.

We got into the taxi at the airport and told the driver “Port Erin, we’ll tell you the name of the hotel”… “Falcons Nest” he said without giving us a chance to check...

Is it the only (still open) hotel in this small town we wondered (tip – the taxi fare to Port Erin was £15, the return by bus £3.20). It was the last day of the TT races and so the island, town and Hotel was full of (mainly) middle aged ‘bikers’ but they were a highly mature bunch and appeared to be a fairly well to do crowd. The only impact this had on us was that the bar was really full, and surrounding cafés were accordingly busy too. Port Erin is a tired looking town and so is this hotel. The bar food is pub grub – how come no fresh fish or lamb or beef? The harbour is only 100 yards away, the fields surrounding the town full of live-stock. The restaurant menu is only a little better, but then again it probably is one of only two or three decent ‘restaurants’ in a town with several cafes (and a number of pubs). Breakfast gave us an excellent choice, though on the last day at 9am was ‘cold’. On two evenings we did get a seat in the conservatory overlooking the beach. This is a decent view. The staff were extremely helpful. Our room (2nd floor, corner at rear) was reasonably large, the bathroom absolutely fine, though a little cramped. The bed could have been a larger for this size of room. The TV was a wee bit ancient (8 channels in 2012?) a 14 inch model on a wall mount. The room has been decorated relatively recently and on the whole the hotel was clean. We reckon that this is a decent two star hotel, and that is what the sign by the door says. Well located for walking out, but with little other than the beach and the walks around the bay to attract one to Port Erin (true there is a golf course up the road). The Manx steam railway station is quite close and there is an excellent bus service, but as stated Port Erin is not as how the local tourist brochures describe (though there is clearly redevelopment in hand), and the hotel for all its efforts is perhaps overpriced for what it is… but then again it is almost a monopoly supplier. Recommended within the limits described. Do not expect luxury, but a clean and decent resting place…well positioned for transport and the beach.
We liked the look of nearby Castletown but did not stop there, Port Mary didn’t have a lot, the walk from Sound to Port Erin took us just over an hour on the coastal path. The all island fixed price travel ticket was very good value.

Room Tip: Our room at the back - and on the second floor was large and quiet....

As a regular visitor since 2006, I have always enjoyed my stays at the Falcon's. Coming over for the Southern 100 Races and the Manx GP. So two visits per year. Three visits in 2011. Rooms are very well appointed and spotlessly clean and comforable. The staff are most helpful and welcoming. No wonder William Gladstone stayed here.(but the staff have changed since then). Ask to see his visitor book entry if you don't believe me. Whilst having your evening meal you can see the Mountains of Morne over the sea in Ireland. The breakfasts held in a large period style room are superb and very varied. Evening meals can be in the form of bar meals or the more formal restaurant. Both of these are served in a sea facing conservatory where one can see Ireland. (mentioned before). ENJOY

Room Tip: I only require a single room eg number 14. Overlooks the car park, facing east so I get the sun in t...

I made my first visit in June 2011 at 71 years old, loved every minute. My son has been going since the Centenial of the TT Race. He made it this year also but didn't get his reservation at Falcon's Nest Hotel in time, but he always loves to eat early Breakfast and Dinner in the Dining Room and the staff has the most welcoming attitude lead by Louise, she is like a breath of fresh air.

Room Tip: stayed in Apartment for a week and a double room for 6 nights overlooking business district and both...

Stayed during TT week 2012 with my teenage boys. From the point we made the booking onwards the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. I've stayed in many larger/more expensive hotels - but never one with a more embedded attitude to customer service. The room was clean and well equipped. The hotel itself has a range of different public rooms offering the choice of lively or quiet according to your taste. Excellent parking facilities and a prime setting in a lovely little seaside town. Very fond memories and we hope to return soon.
