Friendly natives, excellent food, real ale, superb staff.
Ample parking, Wi-Fi, really lovely place to stay.
I don't understand one of the reviews criticising the cleanliness of the rooms, I've stopped here for a number of months and never had an issue.

I love this old, quirky inn. It's not 5 star but neither does it pretend to be. It is what it is a beautiful historic coaching inn with a friendly village atmosphere. I travel here alone when on business and have always been made to feel welcome by the staff and the locals. Excellent food both in the bar and the breakfasts. It's a little gem.

Room Tip: room 24 is delightful. Church view and a four poster

We arrived at 2pm and it was 5 degrees so chilly. We asked for the heating to be turned on but were told it was timed and due to come on at 5.30. At 6.30 one of the radiators was still not working so the Manager came up with his pliers and got it going. When I suggested it would be nice if the heating came on earlier in the cold months I was told it would be too expensive! Really?? Too expensive to have warm cosy rooms in December?? Breakfast was good and served by very helpful staff.

On arrival we were greated and taken to our room. Old and quirky but, the cleanliness was poor. We had to ask for better pillows, two were way past their use. The room had not been dusted nor had the floor been swept. One light did not work. On request we received better pillows however, the light could not be fixed. We complained about the cleanliness and received an apology. Hiowever, the next day it was left in the same state by the cleaners. There was no information sheet in our room.
Breakfast was very good and pleasant. Evening meal was also good but lacking in atmoshere.
When we left after two days there was no one in reception and just left our key on the counter.
Not a good enough stay to come again.

Room Tip: Do not stay in room 12

stayed one night in room 23 - a single directly off the pavement.
- the room was not as clean as i expected it to be
- 2 of the 3 bulbs in the ceiling light were missing
- there was no information folder in the room as was mwntioned in the information envelope i was given
- i asked for an iron & ironing board which never turned up
- no phone in the room
- some of the breakfast items on the full breakfast had obviously been cooked some time before as the sausage was shrivled & the hash brown was quite hard in places
- there was no one at reception when i cheked out - in fact it looked completeley abandoned

Overall i was very dissappointed with this hotel after all the good reviews i read. i will nbot be staying again.

Room Tip: don't have room 23!

Stayed for 2 nights in this 500 year old pub/inn..

Very friendly staff and manager ..

Stayed in room 2 which was massive and overlooked the Abbey and main road .. however no traffic noise to worry about as the village is so small..

400 films on offer if you hired the dvd - a reasonable £3 per film..

Breakfast was great , usual stuff plus a full english on offer but quite happy to chop n change ie i had a bacon butty ..

This place was far the busiest of the 3 pubs here - i tried to get a table for dinner but it was full - that tells you all you need to know - i cant blame the locals going for the £2.20 pint during happy hour - 5 to 7 ...

I paid £70 per night including breakfast which was very good value ..

Well done all concerned ...

Ps had fish n chips for 2 in the White Hart over the road .. £24 for two with a drink ... frankly i've had better at Wetherspoons .. i didn't know that pub was part of a hotel chain as wouldn't of bothered ... soulless ..

Room Tip: Ask for room 2 !

We stayed here for a weekend as we were going to a wedding close by.
The room was very characterful and pleasent enough for the price. Definately nothing fancy but clean and tidy.
A real shame they have neglected the outside space so there was no where nice to sit in the sun and enjoy a coffee or a wine.
The bar was friendly and staff very helpful.
Fabulous full English breakfast the next morning.
Wouldn't choose to saty for more than an overnighter but was fine for the one night.
