“Good value Dales Inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2014 via mobile

We stayed in one of the superior rooms. Only a small additional charge for a large room with two comfy chairs. The bedrooms are very quiet and ours had great views to Bainbridge and beyond.

The bar is more like a village pub than a hotel bar with large TV, darts, pool and local real ales.

The restaurant serves large portions of local products at a reasonable price. A number of vegetarian options and pleasant waiting staff. Breakfast is epic; don't expect yoghurt, fruit, croissant etc. Only options involve choosing the components of a full English.

The DB&B rates are great value.

Very basic accommodations with average to small size room. Mattresses and linens could use an upgrade. Wifi is available but due to weak signal, difficult to use. The breakfast was quite good, and there is a lovely beer garden area out back.

Stayed three nights dinner bed and breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless and towels changed daily. The meals were excellent chosen from a varied menu in a very pleasant restaurant. The breakfasts were faultless and we could even have a poached egg with the full english. We were lucky enough to stay during sunny weather so the well maintained beer garden was a very useful facility. Excellent value for money highly recommended.

We stayed in Askrigg over the May Bank Holiday and popped into the White Rose Hotel for a meal on the Sunday evening. As visitor to the Dales over the past 40 years and having frequented the White Rose previously since it’s reopening a few years back.

First impression to hit me as I walked into the restaurant was the delight of hearing local voices at the bar. I have long time feared this part of Yorkshire is in danger of turning into a theme park filled with second home owners and “The name is Bond, Property Bond” types.

The welcome was warm and even though we asked to go to our table immediately (we were hungry) the service was attentive yet unhurried. The menu was very British and although situated in the centre of the Dales varied with plenty of fish as well as outstanding meat options. Portions were generous and all of our party agreed matched or surpassed the quality of offer at other establishments in Askrigg so thanks Chef. The young waiting staff deserve special mention too as they were polite and helpful in equal measure.

Thank you White Rose, we will be back.

We took a superior double, room 4, which suited us. Large room, king size bed and lovely en-suite. The decor was lovely and the nice little touches were the hand gel, large pump action, shower gel and shampoo and nice towels. Everything we needed. The room was clean. We were blown away with the food in the restaurant, it was fantastic, my starter of smoked haddock fish cake, black pudding and a poached egg would have done me for a main course. The staff and the owner Sue made us so welcome. We met lovely locals and travellers in the bar and when I couldn't get a signal on my mobile Sue gave me the reception phone and wouldn't take anything for it. The breakfast was lovely and the chef came out when I asked how he had done such a perfect poached egg!! If there was a tiny gripe, my friend had the rack of lamb and the mint sauce came out in packets. With the quality of the food it should have been home made like my tartare sauce with the fishcake. Will be going back asap.

Room Tip: We were in a superior double, room 4. Excellent value.

Five of us stayed for two nights here. The young staff were very welcoming and helpful, and the breakfasts were pretty good, with grand black pudding, sausages, bacon etc. and good coffee. The rooms (three of them) were fine - beds a little narrow and mattresses slightly old, but OK. Bathrooms were serviceable.

It is on the main street, but is fairly peaceful and quiet, with rooms at the back moreso. There's a pleasant beer garden for warm days. Whilst the locally brewed beer was OK, the guest beer was poorly kept when we were there - I even left my pint. The landlady, as others have noted, changed between chatty and advisory, and obviously annoyed when we didn't eat there, or stay for lots of drinks.

Room Tip: Quiete rooms at rear, but all are OK
