Only ate here so can't comment on the rooms etc.

The food was plentiful. OMG!!! Never had such a huge piece of gammon in my life. Nicely cooked and my partner had a chicken dish off the menu. On the whole the food was lovely home cooked faire but I will agree with the other comments not AA 4 star. Not sure when this was awarded but maybe a review is due shortly.

As regards the landlady and partner. Certainly have to agree with some of the comments about friendliness/welcome. Almost like they were "doing you a favour" serving you and nothing like the lovely and friendly Yorkshire people we have got to know and love.

With so many other great pubs and restaurants in the area not sure we will venture back.

The main positive of the evening was the young serving staff who were lovely and saved the evening.

We spent one night here on a weekend away to do a few walks in Wensleydale. We had room number 6 which overlooked the Main Street and a lovely bath (as well as shower) which was perfect to relax in! Food was very nice too and we enjoyed the local ales!

Ate here on a Saturday night as staying at b and b locally. Young waitresses were friendly and polite and food was , well average really. All felt like the 1970's ...tremendously old fashioned décor and lacking in any kind of atmosphere or warmness. Wouldn't go again.

We have just returned home after a weekend break a party of six adults who all enjoyed our stay. The first thing to mention is the staff all polite friendly and very efficient nothing to much trouble and everything done with a smile. Rooms clean large and comfortable bathrooms a touch on the tight side this is not a criticism as they are perfectly serviceable if you don't want to spend your weekend in there. And now the food excellent restaurant standard at very reasonable prices ,we stayed on a half board special offer unbelievable value. We will return to the White Rose whether the offer is available or not .
I thank the staff for a lovely stay and recommend the hotel to everybody.

Room Tip: Brilliant views from rooms at rear of hotel 2nd floor

We stopped in for lunch and felt we were disturbing the barman watching his telly whilst surfing on his laptop. Beer very cloudy, food ok but no atmosphere in bar due to no customers apart from the staff and owners who were eating their lunch in the bar. We certainly wouldn't go back.

We only used this hotel for drinks and dinner, but I have to see we really enjoyed it. We received a warm welcome and nice conversation. The place was clean and tidy and the decor really was what I would expect - I really don't want to go to ultra-modern places in a village like Askrigg - I'd rather enjoy character. Items on the menu were all very tempting and our choices were simply delicious and great value for money. We don't go to places like Askrigg expecting ultra-fast broadband the latest styles of furniture or expecting porters in every place we stay to carry our bags for us. We like them for their rather quaint, quirky and slightly old fashioned appeal. From what we saw of this place, it was just fine in all regards.

Thank you so much for your positive comments, we try not to be too modern as it wouldn't go with the building.

We spent one night in Askrig. The White Rose Hotel was nice enough for a stay but nothing special. The room was clean, but small. The window looked at the wall next door. The furnishings are from an older era ....functional. The bathroom was small and a bit of a challenge. The shower was functional. The internet was not good at all. It did not exist in our room and the speed elsewhere depended on who else was using it. The breakfast room was nice, very sunny and cheery and the food was good. An OK place..... definitely not a destination.

Room Tip: It looks like others had better luck with rooms. The countryside is gorgeous and a view over the ro...
