This was all you could possibly hope for from a B and B - friendly and welcoming, beautiful bedroom in a beautiful house, peaceful, secluded surroundings, wonderful views, superb breakfasts - and cake! Thank you, David and Suzanne, for your warm hospitality.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay at High Blean.

Your kind comments are very much appreciated.

It was a real pleasure to have you as our guests and we were pleased to learn you had enjoyed reacquainting yourselves with Raydale, after a few years absence and that the area lived up to your expectations.

If you make the journey back to Raydale Preserves, to purchase the elusive Winter Chutney, we hope you will call in.

What an amazing B&B, David and Suzanne are so welcoming and friendly, The room was spotless with a big comfy bed, homemade biscuits, a selection of tea's, coffee and hot chocolate and wonderful views of the dales, The choice at breakfast was fantastic from cereals and fruit to a full English breakfast. The home made granola was outstanding and the eggs are so fresh, straight from the chickens in the garden.
Nothing was to much trouble for David and Suzanne. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a few nights in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

From the moment we first enquired about booking, David and Suzanne could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The property is immaculate right down to the tiniest detail (including the home made biscuits in our room). The hearty full English breakfast (eggs from the chickens in the garden and locally sourced meat) fuelled a full day's cycling through the fabulous scenery of Wensleydale and Swaledale. We were even blessed by warm, sunny weather allowing for a cooling swim in Semer Water, which our bedroom overlooked.

I don't know how to add to the previous reviews, other than to say that David and Suzanne are genuinely lovely... and artisans - they make seriously good food, the room was clean, comfortable and spacious and wherever we looked we saw beauty, inside and out. We will be staying there again. Regards from Kris and Emma

There is nothing about this B&B that I would change: it was perfect.

The place combines rustic charm with luxury. It is an old, traditional style Dales house but with all of the comforts that make it a first class place to stay. It is beautifully but simply decorated; quality furnishings that are inkeeping with the nature of the house. Our room was fantastic - incredibly comfy bed, great view and a modern, spacious bathroom. TV (you won't need it!) and a tea tray with a variety of quality teas and homemade biscuits.

The breakfast was one of the best I've had; local produce (home made lemon curd and jam from half a mile down the road!). Local meats, eggs (as you want them) laid by their hens and homemade bread too! All served by our lovely hosts in their slate floored breakfast room, warmed by an open fire and with views of the lambs playing on the hill opposite.

David and Suzanne are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They cannot do enough for you. The tea and lemon cake on arrival was a lovely treat and a great way of getting to know them.

In all this is 5* comfort and luxury in beautiful surroundings with owners who will make you feel welcome from the moment that you contact them. Highly recommended.

From the moment I emailed them, David and Suzanne were wonderfully friendly and helpful. We arrived to be greeted with tea and amazing homemade lemon cake.
High Blean is in a wonderful spot in one of the quieter Dales, right by Semer Water. The B&B is perfect, immaculately clean, homely and blissfully peaceful.
We had the room overlooking Semer Water and had a perfect view of the sun gently setting. There was a cosy living room with a fire (already prepared and ready to light), plus a nice landing with some chairs and lots of reading material.
David and Suzanne have succeeded in the two core elements of a bed and breakfast - the bed was the most comfortable thing I've ever slept in; and the breakfast was just out of this world!
And all of that is before mentioning the amazing shortbread biscuits, lovely dogs and awesome shower.
I really can't rave enough about the place, really wonderful and in a perfect spot with the perfect hosts. We will return :)

Room Tip: We had room two, with a view overlooking Semer Water. Apparently it was the smaller room, but it was...

We have just had the most excellent weekend attending my niece's wedding in the Dales. While there we stayed at High Blean where David and Suzanne were tremendous hosts going above and beyond to make our stay a success. Their attention to detail is superb and the level of comfort unbelievable. It felt like going to meet old friends. Thanks so much. Katie said "it was like sleeping on a cloud!" Fabulous breakfasts too

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
High Blean is an old house, built in 1674, which retains many of the original features while offering two good sized, comfortable letting rooms. We are situated in Raydale overlooking Semer Water, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, which is quite remote, being 2 mile out of Bainbridge, 4 mile from Askrigg and 5 mile from Hawes but surrounded by stunning landscapes. Room One is the larger of our two letting rooms and has the benefit of a bath with shower over in the en-suite. This room can be made up as a twin if necessary. Room Two is smaller and has a shower in the en-suite. The room has a king sized bed and a good view of the lake. Both rooms have a flat screen TV, hair-dryer and tea & coffee making facilities. The rooms are available for occupation any-time from 15:00 to 19:00 but we are unable to check in guests arriving after 19:00. Check out time is no later than 10:30am Raydale is a hidden gem and much quieter than Wensleydale or Swaledale, which is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet and makes it ideal for cycling and walking, or just to sit, listen and take in the rugged beauty of the area. Semer Water, the subject of much myth and legend, fills the valley floor and is a haven for birds, as well as being open for sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, and fishing, it is also a venue for wild swimming. ... more   less
