Askrigg is an excellent base for a walking holiday and Holmedale is a very comfortable B&B. The owners, who converted it, have done an excellent job - the character has been retained but the style of the furnishings is up to date. We stayed in a very good sized double room with views across to the church and the market cross. I always try to book a room with a bath for soaking in after a day walking and had almost been put off by the photo on the website which makes the bathroom look quite narrow - it isn't at all, though. The shower over the bath is also impressive!
There is a good choice for breakfast, which is excellent and kept us walking all day, and a choice of pubs to eat in in the evening, depending on your budget. If you're there on a Wednesday do get fish and chips from the van that visits in the evening at 6 - they're really good and Helen very kindly sets up the dining room for you to use.
Nothing was too much trouble during our stay; they are great hosts.
