Back a few years ago I was asked to walk Hadrians wall to write a maGazine article . No problem I said and asked me new girlfriend (now wife) to join me . It was early in the season so most places were shut , no shuttle service ! How hard can it be ?!

My wife informed me that she had never walked further than the pub whilst at university . Needless to say 87 miles in 4 days seemed a little emotional .

So arriving at Herding Hill was a real breathe of fresh air with its best ever toilet block , heated and spotlessly clean. We didn’t glamp as I had a Vango tent ready to roll aka a body condom as my wife calls them . Anyway we had glamping pod envy, shopped at the little gift shop and loved the place.

The campsite is nestled in a wee valley in the hills with sheep and lama staring on . Can whole heartedly recommend the friendly staff and first class facilities .

Camp on the iconic UNESCO Hadrians wall trail . Winner

Fantastic site- warm, clean, dry and comfy, dog friendly glamping pod with a amazing hot tub. Electric heater for cold evenings and its own toilet so you don't have to go out in the dark. Fridge, kettle and microwave so you don't have to go out looking for somewhere for breakfast. We took porridge and picnic food, and takeaways were within five minutes reach for teatime. Showers were warm, clean and modern and there was music playing which was a nice touch. Site was clean and quiet with a cute little farm including donkeys and alpacas! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Close to Hexham and Hadrians wall and 1.5hr to the Northumbrian coast. We had a lovely weekend and will definitely be back!

The question you have to ask yourself is, Why would you not stay at Herding Hill Farm?
You are made to feel very welcome on arrival where you are presented with an array of animals and friendly owners. We stayed in the running water wigwam with hot tub. The wigwam is clean and warm, protecting you from all the Northumberland wilderness has to throw at you, with ample seating space and places for you to prepare your meals. The hot tub is an added bonus sitting out under the stars feeling the warmth of the hot tub as the cool breeze hits your face. There are plenty of places off site to walk yours dogs in the morning and at night. If you have come to visit the sights of Hadrian’s Wall then this could not be a more better place for you to stay being only a few miles from the main forts of the Roman Empire. We will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

we stayed in a wigwam and there were four of us. i'd asked not be in a wigwam which regularly has dogs in for my allergy and this was accommodated. however, there was only one wigwam which doesn't allow dogs on the whole site and this was right next door to the amenities. that being said, it wasn't too noisey, although the older kids did mess about there early evening. i would have preferred a wigwam further away at the bottom of the field for more privacy.

we paid extra for a hot tub, and got full use out of it. it was the perfect place to be after a long walk down Hadrians Wall, which took the majority of the day.

a beautiful place to visit, with some of the best scenery. the village is very small, and non of the pubs serve food until 5pm, which i found strange. there's a chippy in the village though.

this place is not cheap, but I don't mind paying for quality. however, we needed to take two cars on this trip as we were coming from different places, and the owners charged £5 extra per night for the second car, even though it could have been comfortably parked by the wigwam and there is a car park on site. i told them i felt given the money we were paying for two nights this was extortionate, but i got no joy. they were not so accommodating, and this left me feeling ripped off, as there was no mention of this when booking.

i found in general, parking and amenities in the whole area were very expensive. for example, for four of us to go one stop on the bus (approx 3miles) it cost nearly £8. absolutely ridiculous!!!!!
