NORTON LODGE, Nr LINCOLN
We booked in here for 2 nights while visiting a conference at the nearby East of England Showground. Although the sign at the entrance announces a 4 rosette/star hotel it is more like a 3 star motel with most rooms leading directly off an open courtyard. We were warmly welcomed and quickly shown to our room. The room itself was clean and tidy but very basic with kingsize bed, a desk and chair and separate bathroom with shower. There was no sofa or comfy chair so the feel was very much of a "stopover or transit" venue rather than residential hotel. The bed was too hard for our personal tastes and if you are over 5' 6" in height you have to be careful not to bang your head on the slanting ceiling when getting into bed. (To be fair we were on the first floor so the ground floor rooms may have not had the same problem). Although modern in design there was a bit of a well worn feel about the place with things like thin towels fraying at the edges. There is no bar or restaurant and breakfast is served in a canteen sort of room off the reception. Breakfast is self service and OK if you like full English but found wanting if (like my wife) you prefer fruit, muesli and the like. In fact when we came down for breakfast there was no marmalade available and apparently this had been the case for the past couple of days. All in all it was not a particularly comfortable stay, but if you are just looking for somewhere to put your head down for a night in transit (and don't mind a rather firm mattress) it maybe OK for you at £75 per night.
