“Hotel or Motel?”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

NORTON LODGE, Nr LINCOLN
We booked in here for 2 nights while visiting a conference at the nearby East of England Showground. Although the sign at the entrance announces a 4 rosette/star hotel it is more like a 3 star motel with most rooms leading directly off an open courtyard. We were warmly welcomed and quickly shown to our room. The room itself was clean and tidy but very basic with kingsize bed, a desk and chair and separate bathroom with shower. There was no sofa or comfy chair so the feel was very much of a "stopover or transit" venue rather than residential hotel. The bed was too hard for our personal tastes and if you are over 5' 6" in height you have to be careful not to bang your head on the slanting ceiling when getting into bed. (To be fair we were on the first floor so the ground floor rooms may have not had the same problem). Although modern in design there was a bit of a well worn feel about the place with things like thin towels fraying at the edges. There is no bar or restaurant and breakfast is served in a canteen sort of room off the reception. Breakfast is self service and OK if you like full English but found wanting if (like my wife) you prefer fruit, muesli and the like. In fact when we came down for breakfast there was no marmalade available and apparently this had been the case for the past couple of days. All in all it was not a particularly comfortable stay, but if you are just looking for somewhere to put your head down for a night in transit (and don't mind a rather firm mattress) it maybe OK for you at £75 per night.

We stayed for 2 nights on a Wowcher voucher. Greeted by Spence on arrival, very nice bloke. The room was a decent size and very clean.Breakfast is served between 8.30 to 10.00, we went down around 9 ish both mornings and had no problem getting a table. There was plenty of fresh hot food, the young girls serving toast and clearing the tables were pleasant enough.
After looking here on Tripadvisor we had booked a meal at The Green Man which was very nice. They also serve a number of real ales which was good.
We went into Lincoln on Saturday,Spence sorted us a return Taxi out which worked perfectly.
Thanks.

We came on a Wowcher voucher and found the room and surroundings very pleasant. The room was a decent size and the so was the bathroom. Nice seating area outside. The breakfast was self serve which didn't bother us, but might some. My only niggle is the lodgeonly had about 4 rooms booked and they put us all next to eachother. It would make more sense to have a gap so you don't hear the people next door. Very comfy bed!

My wife and I stayed for two nights on a KGB deal which was booked early this year. I had mislaid my voucher and when I contacted hotel, Vanessa advised this was not a problem and she would sort out. I subsequently found voucher but had to contact Vanessa again and she readily agreed to change dates of stay. Slight difficulty in finding hotel when nearby, approaching from one direction, as Norton Disney sign not visible. On arrival we were shown to our room which was clean and pleasant. The two nearby pubs the Green Man and The Five Bells were recommended for evening meals, which were both very good. Very good english breakfast each day.

Stayed here on an Amazon Local deal but wouldn't hesitate to stay again, whether or not a deal was available. Staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Room was clean with a large, very comfortable bed, powerful shower and large, deep and comfortable bath - I read a chapter of my book in there! Breakfast was excellent. The hotel is nicely situated and very peaceful. Lovely!

Lovely setting, watching the lapwings in the mornings and evenings was a treat for us. Never saw the resident barn owl! It was so peaceful. Breakfast lovely, room fine with a lovely powerful shower.
Would stop again if we are in the area.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to face the courtyard but I only got a good wi fi reception by sitting in the courtya...

Met by friendly informative young chap at reception. Showed us to our room and how to operate door/electric card which we thought was a very nice touch.
Room very clean and comfortable and lots of space. Grounds fab and the whole experience was relaxing.
Bed huge and welcoming, most likely the best bed I have ever slept in and the bath was big and when full of hot water so relaxing after a day walking around the airshow.
Breakfast was good with a large selection of food. The only thing I would say is the two young girls filling the breakfast buffet and clearing the tables made no eye contact and there was no conversation. A menu informed you how breakfast was performed. There was no welcome. However, this was a slight to an otherwise wonderful stay. Thank you. We would definitely return if in this area again.
Ate at the Green Man - food most likely the best and most reasonable that I have ever had and the service was fab.
