Nice homely accommodation, close to centre town. Well equipped. Beds a bit basic - could do with a bit of an upgrade. Very friendly owner and dog. Good breakfast and good value for money

We were staying for just one night. When we arrived in the car park the large dog followed the car and waited for the driver to get out. Once we got out we followed him in. This was the best welcoming ive ever recieved. Although he may seem aggressive at first, be assured that he is one amazingly warm, friendly and lovable dogs.

The room was well equipped and not oversold. Almost every hotel i've stayed in has been oversold. The room came with en suite and a flatscreen TV with freeview channels. This was the first time ever i had had a flatscreen TV.

Stayed in Ecklinville House at Poachers Den for two nights whilst on business in July and will return. Excellent Full English breakfast...wow...I got though it , but only just!! I had a twin en-suite room and it was exceptionally clean and well decorated and fitted out and I felt right at home! really good value for a four star rated accommodation. Rob and Audrey were so friendly and helpful. Tea or coffee could be made in their kitchen at any time and there was an fantastic guest lounge with a 42" TV...also internet connection, which was very helpful.

We spent 5 days at Poachers Den Cottage and would highly recommend it. We found the key in the door as pre-arranged and loved the feel and atmosphere of the cottage. Everything was so clean and tidy and very nicely furnished and painted whilst still maintaining the "cottage" feel. Rob introduced himself early evening and was so welcoming and friendly. Zues the dog was so lovely and always greeted us and saw us to and from the car...so sweet!! The gardens and grounds were really nice to walk around and so well tended. we would recommend this accommodation very highly. Nice to have a separate shower and bath in each of the rooms.

Room Tip: lovely four poster bed in the double room

stayed hear with my elderley mum and found that on arrival there was no one in and so we had to make are own way of going in to our ground floor room where the key was left outside of the door in the lockThe room was not very good at all either the decoration of the room was very very poor and is in much much need of decorating and a complete full makekeover of furniture and duvet covers and curtains and window nets as well as towles and bathroom shower and toliet and basin.very very poor outside of poachers den,s gate as there is hardly any lighting at night as this is a health and saftey issue plus poor garden wise going in to your room as there is a rose bush what keeps prickling you as you go in to your room.you also have to go in to the house its self of poachers den for your drinks and again this is not stated on the website of poachers den also had a poor cooked breatfast which we both left and we had to look else where for a bed and breatfast and would defintly not recomend this to anyone,it is the worse place i have stayed

Disappointed with this review as arrangements were made with this guest to use a room our Poachers Den Cottage for one nights B&B and it was agreed that she was happy to see herself into the room in our absence. There is automatic lighting which was operating. The cottage has a four star rating provided by Visit England. The rose bush was in full bloom and wonderful but was cut back. When asked if they enjoyed their breakfast they said that they had...they ate everything provided. We are renowned for the quality and quantity of our Full English breakfasts and also any variations thereof and also cater for vegetarians. The curtains have been subsequently removed and washed to ensure that there could be no other such complaints. The bedding is used but not shabby. We have had very good reviews since these negative comments.

We absolutely loved our stay, made to feel extremely welcome. Very modern furnishing and decor with fantastic en suite facilities. Would highly recommend either the cottage or the main house.

I found the "Poachers Den" via a search engine., The website for the property makes it look quite nice, although the furnishings look a little dated and, unlike some places, they take pets by prior arrangement which is a bonus as I have dog. The man I spoke to was pleasant, he couldn't get us into the self catering cottage for 2 nights but said he would try to juggle things around to accommodate us.

We arrived at the given time and were greeted by a large dog in the grounds who growled and barked at us non stop which was very worrying and a little scary. We had to creep through the grounds to avoid the dog to get to the house. We spent some time ringing, knocking and shouting but could find no one. The self catering cottage could be clearly viewed, the sun room had filthy windows and the furnitue in it was mistmatched and differed from the web photo's. The garden was full of various different caravans full of what looked junk and a couple of large sheds full of different vehicles and parts. The house and grounds were all different to the website and I can only presume the photographs were taken some time ago.

Having not found anyone in the house nor garden I called the mobile number for the owner but there was no answer. We waited around for a good half an hour but we realised we had no choice but to leave as time was against us. Having seen the state of the cottage and met the unfriendly dog (which would have made walking in the garden very difficult) we were reluctant to stay anyway.

We'd driven for 2 hours to get to the Poachers Den and having a small dog we knew it would be difficult to find an alternative place to stay - it was extremely annoying and frustrating to have been so misled. The only saving grace was that I had booked at late notice and it was too late for the owner to take a deposit although I would definitely now be asking for it back. I would not recommend choosing the Poachers Den for even an overnight destination. Very disappointing.

Unfortunately the guests arrived early so we were not there when they arrived...only Zues, whom they had been forewarned about and that he was very friendly although would bark when they arrived. Sorry that after heplping accommodate them that they had cause to complain. We look into all complaints as feedback can be very helpful. We are still developing the site and upgrading from Caravans to log Cabins. The windows were blown and have since been replaced.
