“Great venue for a large group”
Reviewed January 5, 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We spent a great week at the 1908 Lodge for our now annual New Year's break. We were a group of 20 in total, 5 families of 4, all with small children, staying in Wing 1.

The location is great - very near the shops and town, and an easy walk to the ferry to reach Portsmouth and the shops and restaurants at Gunwharf Quays. There's loads to do nearby with small children, including Marwell Zoo, beaches, swimming (The Pyramids centre was brilliant) and soft play (at Monkey Bizniz, Gosport).

The house itself is huge, all of the adults bedrooms on the ground and first floors are massive, with en suite shower rooms, and space in each bedroom for spare beds and cots - Evelyn, the Manager, made sure that they were made up with the right number of beds and cots, as requested. All rooms had big, comfy beds, and crisp clean bedding and towels. The kids loved the bunk bed and quad rooms on the top floor too. There are plenty of beds, cots and highchairs for all.

There are two lounges which meant that we could keep the kids toys out of the way in the smaller room, and the larger lounge upstairs would have seated even more than our big group, and still been comfortable. The kitchen is small by comparison with the rest of the house, but with a utility room, two fridges, a freezer, an industrial cooker, and tonnes of cupboard space, dishwasher, and plenty of plates, glasses, dishes and mugs, plus two dining rooms, overall there was plenty of space.

Overall, it was a tiny bit more basic than some of the other places that we've rented. The water pressure in the showers can be a bit low (silver lining: husband spent less time there) and in deepest darkest winter a house of this size/age can be a bit chilly, but overall, given the location, price and huge size of the property, it was a great find and an absolute bargain.

“Perfect House for a Pre Christmas Celebration”
Reviewed January 2, 2015 for a stay in December 2014

8 adults and 8 teenagers gathered for a pre Christmas weekend get together and we had a brilliant time in this lovely house, it was perfect for us. We stayed in Wing 1. It has big spacious bedrooms, really comfortable beds and linen. Lots of bathrooms, most ensuite. A lounge for the teens to hang out in and a lounge for the adults. The kitchen coped with our huge meals and we all managed to sit round the table. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub. The house had two Christmas trees and loads of decorations, it was really festive and kick started our Christmas celebrations brilliantly. The ferry that takes you to shops, restaurants, cinema and bowling is just a 10 minute walk away. Waitrose supermarket literally round the corner. All of the maritime museums & boats and Navy stuff you could wish for (can you tell I was the one that went shopping), that kept all the teens & Dads well occupied. Two days and my Christmas shopping was done, the outlet shopping was brilliant. Great house, great location.

“High quality venue for for large groups”

Booked Wing 1 for a hen party of 17 on 26-29 September. Can't recommend highly enough, from straightforward booking with Evelyn to the size and quality of the house. It's laid out and organised in such a way that everything was made easy (very important when organising a large group!) - loads of space for people to make the most of, large living room to come together, plenty of showers/bathrooms, large garden, close to a supermarket and the added bonus of a hot tub! Quiet area (but not so quiet you can't have fun) and walkable to the Gosport ferry to Portsmouth. If you're organising a large group event (especially for people who like their creature comforts) then this is the place.

spacious house, excellent for a Group of friends who don't mind sharing bathrooms, kitchen etc., uncomplicated Organisation, helpful assistance ahead of stay, good Location near Supermarket, quiet neighbourhood, well equipped with cutlery and dishes although dishwasher, pots/pans could do with better cleaning,
all in all: a home away from home

“Great weekend away”
Reviewed June 3, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

A group of 18 stayed in this lodge and we had a lovely time. The bedrooms are large with comfy beds and nice bathroom facilities. The kitchen is very well equipped and generally the house has everything you could need. It is so spacious that even with a group this size there is plenty of room to sit and relax. The owner is very helpful and welcoming.

“Hen house to die for!”

I booked wing 1 for a hen party with 12 hens staying at the lodge. We had a fabulous time... Plenty of room in the main dining room for all to gather and eat around and found the appliances easy to use. There was a stock of tea, coffee and sugar so need not of brought those with me. Bin bags and tea towels were also provided which saved me bringing those!

We loved the private use of hot tub (I've been on a hen weekend before and the hot tub had prohibited hours). Everyone had a great time.

The directions to find the lodge we're easy and I didn't have to guide anyone... Bonus!

Wonderful time had by all.
