“Terrible”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Four of us dined , two ok two of us had had fish over cooked no sauce offered which was on the menu. Vegetables cold, advised they were cold second portion even colder! Sauce for fish offered after fish was eaten, worst sauce ever seen. Will not be returning which is a shame as live within walking distance and worked there in my youth and was an amazing place to eat !

“Second visit, not so good this time”
Reviewed July 25, 2013 via mobile

Tried a second visit, this time the service was not so good, and neither was the food. They forgot the sauce for my partners steak, the chips were rather dry and my lasagne looked very dry and as if it wasn't too fresh. Seems as if you are paying quite a premium for the waterside view (which admittedly is excellent). The dessert was very nice though, a gorgeous cheesecake. Beer is excellent too. So, we'll not be eating there again but it's great for just a drink.

“Great beer and setting”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

This is a lovely old pub in a great setting beside the harbour and it retains a good bar area for drinking and chatting. The beers are well kept and go down a treat, the food however is not really up to much and a bit overpriced (we have tried it a few times). Staff are generally attentive but not friendly.
We will not go back for eating here unless it changes hands, but will continue to walk along for a pint or two.

“Need gluten free food...GO HERE!”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

On our recent visit to England, staying with friends in Gosport, we, that is my Husband and I, and our friend Mike, and Mike's two year old Grandson, Elliott, went for lunch at The Jolly Roger! My Husband is a Celiac; he rarely finds anything of particular interest on a menu, other than his good old stand-by, steak and chips! To say we were "wowed" by the menu is a huge understatement, both the selection for non-allergic diners, and gluten-free requiring people. So impressive...meals we'd never seen on GF menus back here in Canada (come on Canada...catch up!) Steak and kidney pudding, battered fish and chips, beef stew with dumplings and a choice of curries...and desserts other than the bog-standard ice cream or fruit plate...spotted dick, sticky toffee pudding, treacle sponge and pancakes...all gluten free! My Husband was in seventh heaven as was our two year old dining companion who tucked into sausage and chips, and a bowl of olives (and ate every one of them!)
I should have inquired if someone at the pub was a Celiac, and therefore, had a vested interest in offering quality gluten free fare...but I didn't! The staff were totally unfazed by the gluten free request, and the battered fish my Husband chose was delicious, and well presented. To boot, we had a gorgeous view over the water and the prices were reasonable. It was a most enjoyable way to eat lunch! Huge congrats to whomever is steering this particular ship; it certainly isn't full of pirates!

“Good quality food at a fair price”
Reviewed June 24, 2013 via mobile

Booked in advance and got a lovely view of the water. The prices were just about right and the food of a very good standard. The toblerone cheesecake was absolutely superb! All in all a very enjoyable experience.
