We had a brilliant time visiting the museum. Our guide Mike was really helpful and patient with our disabled son. We arrived by 9.30.a.m. and they allowed us on within 15 minutes so that we went through the submarine before large groups arrived. It was really interesting and my son loved it. He always wanted to go on a submarine. It took us over an hour and the time went really quickly Mike did not rush us at all. God knows how they cooked meals in that kitchen. A must do you will not be disappointed. The visitor shop and museum upstairs was also very interesting. There is a small café just down from the Alliance did not use this but as we left several people were sat outside with drinks and they seem to be enjoying it.

A Great vist to the museum interesting and well laidout history of life in the navy and onboard the HMS Alliance submarine. The guide was excellent and very interesting from the start, you must vist.

Don't be put off by the rather modest entrance to the site, and the dull exterior of the buildings.
Once inside, you will find an extensive museum, with very good displays, interesting to the most stubborn 'landlubber'.
The 40-minute tour of HMS Alliance went very quickly, mainly because it was quite unique, and also the tour guide 'Dave' was very knowledgeable and experienced in talking to a small group of mixed age group visitors.
Allow two to three hours to see everything properly, or skip through sections if you wish.
Parking was no problem (we arrived at 1 pm on Sunday).
There was a small tea-bar, which we did not use, but which supplied light refreshments and snacks.

Had a great day at the submarine museum.
The highlight has to be the tour of the submarine. It wouldn't be my sort of thing normally but the tour guides are old submariners and are fascinating as they add little memories and anecdotes to their talks.
The upstairs has lots of hand on things for the children (6&4) and plenty of info for the adults. The children got to make periscopes while we were there, which they loved the and guy doing them was friendly and really helpful. Also they have a new play room for under 5s, which my kids had a ball in.
If you do gift aid when you buy your tickets, you can return free for a year: something we would all be keen to do.
They are carrying out extensive work on HMS Alliance at the moment, but it didn't detract from our day, especially as we can visit again when its finished.

2  Thank Alex P
