“Relaxing Enchanting Place”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

We wandered in here for a late lunch after a long steep hike down from Mount Bre. This little relaxing restaurant right on the lakeside is like something out of a storybook. Simple, yet enchanting. The small dining terrace has a fantastic view of the lake and mountains. Our simple lunch was just wonderful--gnocchi in cheese sauce, large mixed salad with tuna and the to-die-for plum tart with hazelnut custard! The fresh air, the light, the view, and the great food was one of the best experiences of our 3-week trip in the lakes and dolomites. After lunch we completed the day by taking the ferry back to Lugano.

“Great Views, Swiss Specialities”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

The view here is stunning, with the calm lake Lugano to one side and olive groves up the side of a mountain to your other. To get here, you will have to park at one of the public lots above Gandria and walk down about 5 - 10 minutes. Conversely, you can do the 4k walk on the footpath from Lugano...or take a bus and walk down. Using a boat taxi is somewhat prohibitive and impractical as the last taxi out does not coincide with dining times.

The food is great. Wonderful risottos, polenta, and our fave, raclette. Raclette is not a speciality of Ticino, nor is it widely served in summertime, so finding it here in such a beautiful setting is quite a treat. We roll gluten free due to celiac, so raclette is a super safe bet for us. Enjoy. Oh PS..bring your google translator if you need it!

“Incredible views, great food”
Reviewed June 15, 2011

You can either hike to Gandria from Lugano, which is about an hour hike, or you can take a boat to Gandria. This restaurant is a jewel of Gandria. We have been here several times and have not been disappointed. There is limited English spoken but the menu is translated in English. It is a small place, very friendly. There are about 6 tables outside on the balcony which is perched over Lake Lugano, offering stunning views of the Lake. The food is very fresh and local. The pastries for dessert are homemade. It is a pleasant way to spend a leisurely lunch.
