Classic Basque cooking with a contemporary flair and brilliant presentation; freshest ingredients and not a disappointing item on the entire menu; fish and seafood dishes are absolutely perfect, not to mention everything else: interesting appetizers, firstrate meat offerings and a creative offering of desserts! Outstanding wine pairings and an interesting but not huge wine list.
This is a restaurant with a spacious dining room and perfect service ( considerable space between tables enables good conversation, no dish clatter in the room, quiet and attentive staff are not obtrusive, friendly and courteous service) This is a PERFECT example of what a Michelin Star restaurant should be: superb cuisine, fine setting, flawless service (although not everyone with a star lives up to this standard!) The big plus is that it is affordable; prices are quite reasonable and one can eat less well for more money at many other places in the area.
This is one of the best restaurants in the Basque country, and a model of what a fine restaurant should be, not only for the cooking but for the ambiance as well. Nearby restaurants with more stars and higher prices cant compare to this for perfection without the silly conceits of experimental cuisine: this is classic food of the highest quality prepared in a manner that respects the great tradition of Basque food and hospitality. A perfect restaurant, worthwhile to visit even if your are not staying in Hondarribia!
