“Wonderful staff make this a very special hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

Stayed at this hotel with five close school chums on our annual weekend away. The Jaizkibel is modern and the building is unremarkable from the outside. Inside it is well furnished and the rooms are spotlessly clean, comfortable and very peaceful. I would comment, as did another reviewer, that it would be great to have a full length mirror in the bedroom as well as in the bathroom. Breakfast is buffet style, very good quality, with a good variety of sweet and savoury options, and lovely fresh fruit.

We found all the staff at the hotel are wonderful, friendly and helpful. Their English was excellent and they did everything from suggesting places to visit to accommodating us for dinner when the inclement weather prevented us from going into town; this was despite the hotel restaurant being fully booked for the special festival dinner taking place that evening. They made us up a table on the covered terrace, even bringing blankets in case we were cold. And to top all that, they created a vegetarian meal for me - with no notice - that was delicious.

The bar area was a great place to relax with a drink after a busy day touring around and watching the incredible marching bands during the festival.

The hotel It is situated in a residential area, a ten minute walk to the centre - slightly longer for the beach; a trade off for its quiet location. That said, the whole area really livened up during the festival being celebrated while we were there. The Jaizkibel is not cheap but it is very good. The town is lovely and the residents warm and friendly. Festivals seem to be great family occasions.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room just ask. we were on the second floor and it was very peaceful.

this was one of the best hotels i have ever stayed at.
The hotel itself was very clean and spacious
The staff were unbelievably helpful, especially the reception staff-very patient advising us and suggesting things to do
The breakfast had everything you could wish for-we had a fantastic meal one night
it is not suitable for anyone who has difficulty walking. Although its only a short walk to the old town, you do have to go up 3 escalators-the views at the top are great.
all in all you will not be disappointed
note to hotel...can you please put mirrors in the room, the one in the bathroom is not enough!

Excellent location and staff were fantastic. Pace was also clean with kitchen. A little noisy due to the festival, but so good to be so close to it. Only down side is it is not close to the beach. Overall great hotel.

We stayed one night at the parador in Hondarribia but moved to the Hotel Jaizkibel motivated by its excellent restaurant and spacious and quiet rooms. This was the best hotel we stayed at during a two week trip to Spain. Although located in a leafy area of Hondarribia it is within a 5-10 minute walk of restaurants and sea front. The rooms were spacious, clean, modern and quiet and the breakfast was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and parking in an underground garage was free. We enjoyed an excellent two day stay.

We stay at the Jaizkibel every time we visit Madrid (on the way or on the way back) and it is consistently excellent and good value for money. The hotel is very well designed and landscaped. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food at dinner and breakfast is very good. The rooms feel spacious and airy (although they are pretty much standard size, which is fine for an overnight stop) and are well designed. It only has 24 rooms so make sure you book ahead.

For the last two nights of our holiday we wanted somewhere decent to stay ahead of a 24 hour ferry crossing to the UK and this hotel turned out to be an excellent choice. Had initially wanted to stay in San Sebastian but couldn't find anything half decent with easy parking, so picked Hondarribia which is a 30 minute drive away-glad we did. Located in its own grounds, its immaculately looked after and smartly decorated. Decent sized rooms (and bathrooms) with comfortable beds, good air conditioning. Its located two streets behind the main part of town (old town is worth a look but not much going on there in terms of restaurants and shops); there's even escalators which get you up and down the hill; genius!

Breakfast was the usual continental style cold buffet (as well as to order omelettes), all of very good quality, served in the restaurant which has a bar and quiet lounge attached.

Staff couldn't have been more helpful; plenty of local knowledge as well as advice on places visit further away. Sun deck on the roof (no pool) overlooking the bay/harbour. Secure on site parking. Definitely a thumbs up.

Summary: This is a great hotel. The service is honestly the best part as the team there did everything possible to make us feel welcome. I would highly recommend this hotel and I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Location: The hotel is a little removed from where many of the other hotels are in the old city, however it is very close and a quick walk away. Additionally, the quiet area that it was in was very nice and extremely tranquil. There is also a bit of green space on the hotel grounds which was welcome.

Rooms: My room was very well appointed and very comfortable. I especially liked the bathroom because of its large size and large mirror.

Hotel features: Both the restaurant and the bar were very nice. The food was well done and we had a very nice welcome drink provided by the hotel.

Room service: N/A

Service in general: The service is great here. Everyone was very nice and very responsive. The woman at the front desk even walked outside with us in the morning with an umbrella to help us meet our taxi.
