I came to this restaurant for lunch with my wife, because it's one of the old ones in Poiana Brasov, because it had a reputation for good food and because the food was indeed pretty good last time I visited it, a few years ago. But after our (short) experience, it will probably be another few years before I come back or recommend this to anyone, even if I'm likely to visit Poiana Brasov more in the near future.
This is what happened. We had paid a short visit to the restaurant the night before, just to have a quick look at where we were going to eat the next day and noticed that the indoor part of the restaurant was as full of cigarette smoke as a crowded night club. We kept that in mind when we came the next day, but still went inside to look for someone from the staff, because outside on the terrace there was nobody. Indoors was as smokey as usual and when we said we'd like a table outside they directed us to the outside staff. We went back out and finally found one of the staff members and told them we'd like a table.
At this point I'd like to mention that outside it was cloudy and it had rained about 2 hours prior to our visit. Also, I have to mention that of all the tables outside, there were about 5 or 6 situated under the restaurant eave (all taken) and out of all the rest, none except for one had umbrellas to protect customers from rain or strong sunlight.
So we asked for a table outside and were told there none were available since they didn't have umbrellas and that there was the danger of rain. We told the lady from the staff that we'd sit under the only one which did have an umbrella, but she said that it's too far away from the kitchen and they couldn't bring us the food through the eventual rain. So we said OK, then we'd like to sit at the table closest to the kitchen entrance (literally 3 meters away) even if it had no umbrella. We said we'd take the chance in case of rain, but that we didn't think it will start again. With a determined and convinced voice she said no and that it was definetely going to rain - she might have a direct hotline to God or something, I don't know. She tried to convince us to eat inside, but we said there was too much smoke and asked why they didn't have umbrellas for the outside tables. Her answer was that there was a window open for the indoor tables (one window for about 15 tables) and I think she got offended by our question about the umbrellas, because she said "Am I supposed to bring umbrellas for the tables when I come to work?". We said that we knew it wasn't her fault, but the fault of whoever administered the restaurant, but she kept talking to us with a tone as if we were some kind of idiots.
So we told her we'd go eat somewhere where the staff has a bit more courtesy for their customers and left. We didn't ask to speak to her supervisor or something because we didn't want to spoil our mood, because we were also pretty hungry and because Poiana Brasov is full of great places to eat.
Also, as we had expected, there were only a few drops of rain in the next couple of hours, so we could have easily eaten at the mentioned outside table.
