I have just returned from 3 nights at the Euro Hotel in Poiana Brasov. The rooms were basic (twin beds, tv, shower, toilet etc) but were very clean. The heating in the rooms couldn't be controlled from the radiators and where often very hot during the night. Shower pressure was lovely and hot, but baths would have been nicer after a day on the slopes.
Breakfast had a selection of cheeses, meats and pastries etc and is more than you normally get at a basic style hotel. The hotel is probably about a 10-15 minute walk from the slopes along the road so not easy if you have your ski/boarding equipment, but we hired from the ANA hotel and stored it there overnight.
My only real whinge with the hotel and was general of other Romanians within the town was the lack of friendliness and helpfulness. We stayed over new year's eve and were looking for somewhere to eat and find out what celebrations were happening. We found out most hotels organised their own parties and there wasn't much outside of that. The Euro Hotel did not tell us about their evening meal/party and as such when we asked on the 31st it was fully booked. They weren't concerned or helpful in suggesting what other alternatives there may be. We were resigned to eating crisps and drinking in our hotel room on new years eve, while the hotel had a party down the hall. As it was, that is what we did do, until we went for a walk near the slopes and was able to find a restaurant (one of the only non-hotel restaurants) that wasn't having a private party. So we were fed in the evening.
Which was good considering, the hotel party lasted until 5am, which meant they weren't serving breakfast until 11am. This did not help us as we had to leave at 9.30. We got passed from staff member to staff member and no one would say that breakfast wasn't available. They weren't even able to offer us a bread roll, yoghurt or some meat and cheese. All easily/non-preparable food. So we sufferred a few hours bus journey on empty, hungover stomachs...
