Belmonte is a small village set high above a valley. The convent that the hotel is set in dates back to the 13th century. While the hotel manages to retain the atmosphere of the original historic building, the rooms are comfortable and modern. The food is world class. I had the degustation menu, which was one of the best I've ever had. The different courses were all extremely tasty and quite diverse. I would highly recommend it to any food lover. The staff are also friendly, courteous, and helpful.

This hotel was originally a convent, now beautifully restored to a luxury hotel. The furnishings were beautiful, with little nooks and crannies everywhere. Great to explore all areas, and the atmosphere at night was lovely. Subdued lighting in all areas. Our room was huge, called Frei Pedro, a superior room, with a huge private decked area, with sun loungers, and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valley!
Our evening meal was one of the best meals ever! Cooked and presented to a very high standard! If in the U.K, stars would be awarded. The waiting staff, there only was one, Tiago, was brilliant, very attentive but not obtrusive! The restaurant was quiet, as only ourselves and one other diner were eating, but it was midweek.
My one criticism was the swimming pool and terrace area. The pool was uninviting, and the terraced area needed a lot of maintenance, but the staff told us we arrived on their first day of summer! Charming staff throughout, nothing was too much bother!

Stayed here for one night. Rooms and hotel itself are very nice and have authentic feel of Portuguese pousada. All our rooms had balcony with a great view of the surrounding area. Hotel has excellent restaurant which must be visited. We had one of the best dinner here during our vacation in Portugal!

Breathtaking beauty! No other hotel boasts such inviting common areas! The building, the passages, the views, the huge rooms! Maybe the faucets are not the latest technology, but they work perfectly! Service was great. Wish we had stayed more. Do try to get more than one night there! The dinner was expensive but very tasty and special! Not so breakfast which was standard fare.

The hotel is built in a former convent. The common areas are beautifully decorated and the entire hotel is very well conditioned. The rooms are huge, but need a little maintenance. The worst part was the noise coming from the air conditioning of the hostel that ended only when switched off at 23.30.

Room Tip: Check for rooms without AC noises

A stunning location with views and amazing building. The dinner we had was the best we had in Portugal. Kudos to the chef!

The service was another matter. We had to haul our own luggage and later saw the receptionist performing many duties includlng luggage transfer. Breakfast was a disaster with many people trying to eat and limited food. Only one server who was running back and forth to the kitchen but she could´not keep up with the demand. They were short staffed and it made everything difficult.

The room was surface clean. Don´t look too close.

After spending a week touring in Barcelona and Porto, we arrived at the Pousada Convento de
Belmonte. What a beautiful place. Formerly a Convent however turned into a Pousada. Rooms
were very large and clean. Bed was huge. Each room was given a Friar's name which was
different and rooms have balconies.. Breakfast was included and was good. Area round was mountainous and beautiful.
Pool was small but okay. Staff was incredible and just being there was so relaxing. The town
was a 10 minute drive - small but worth seeing. Had lunch at a family owned restaurant "Restaurante As Ferreirenkas" which was great. Had a dessert later that night in the Pousada
restaurant. Very good but expensive.

Room Tip: Didn't matter where you stayed in the Pousada. Rooms were all nice.
