Loved being able to explore and climb around. Not so great was the graffiti sprayed on some interior walls.

The previous reviewers are quite right in their descriptions: it is one more castle on top of the hill. Yet, I guess I liked it and as I encountered nice people and we joked about the Portuguese kingdom and its effort to get rid of the Moors or other invaders, I think I had a good time because of them.
Though, it's a pity that there is no way to get more information on the site about what actually happened there and, much worse, the small church was closed, I supposed out of security issues? Or lack of money.
But as one walks through Arroiolos one has to pass through the castle and then admire the rugs and find out why they are so succesful.
History, rugs and castle: dusty but always updatable...

There are so many towns with hilltop castles. Some grab you. Some don't. This one didn't. It is OK and pleasant to visit but there are many others with more magic.

As usual, there is a castle on top of the hill, above the village. This one is rather desolate, walls, a tower and -of course- a church. The main reasons to go to Arraiolos are the pretty town centre and the handicraft shops that make and sell the famous Arraiolos rugs.

I live close and i love this area, but this Castle unfortunately is unimproved, only have the church ( always closed), a great view and nothing more, is a shame... i hope something chance for better in a near future!
