This is was the best part of my trip to Portugal. :) Stella was the best host ever and the food was spectacular! The surroundings are amazing and with the old castle next to the the hotel made it all the best :) Everything was just perfect there and I will definitely without a doubt visit again! It is the perfect getaway :)

This gem of a hotel is a must-visit retreat for any visitors to the border of Spain and Portugal. Ms Stella has opened her gracious home as a hotel, creating a true sanctuary for those who seek the vanishing beauty and peace of old Europe. The hotel was built, hundreds of years past, as the elegant residence of the local Bishop incorporating Roman marble stairs and many other unique architectural features. The rooms are immaculate. Ours had a wide view overlooking the surrounding countryside. Although we were strangers Stella treated us as honored guests. Her hospitality was given with a spirit of true generosity and love.

Like someone else stated in an earlier review, Stella is the definition of hospitality. She went way above and beyond her call of duty to make our stay as pleasant as it could possibly be. The Casa de Terena is a beautiful sight in itself with its beautiful historic features matched with its tasteful current owners’ African decor. Stella made the most impeccable breakfast we've probably had ever and also provided useful insight on what to do and where to go, always successfully… We loved all of Portugal, but this was definitively the highlight and we can't wait to visit again!

I would certainly recommend staying here and use it as a base for discovering the true Portugal. The breakfast is superb, the hospitality first class and we all felt at home. Try it & you will not be dissapointed.

Look up "hospitality" in the dictionary and you will find a picture of Stella standing next to the Casa de Terena. My wife, our two friends, and I spent four wonderful nights there in mid April. Everything was perfect for us. We love traveling back roads and visiting small villages and the Alentejo and Terena are ideal.
Staying at the Casa de Terena was more like visiting old friends than staying at a hotel. I know that sounds cliche, but it's true. The breakfasts were a wonderful experience and drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the lounge was a great way to end a day of exploring.
The village held it's annual festival of the Virgin while we were there and that was an extra treat for us. All in all, I can not speak too highly of the Casa de Terena. We saw most of Portugal on our trip and the Alentejo was my favorite, with the Douro Valley coming in a close second.

Stella and Casa de Terena just lovely, we felt at ease immediately, and just settled in. Nothing a bother, the most delightful area, a hop skip and jump to the old castle ruins, goodness knows how old but way older than when Captain Cook discovered Australia!!
Stella was most helpful in suggesting what she felt would interest us and I find those that travel really appreciate knowing what not to bother with.
I will certainly recommend this welcoming place to all my other friends likely to be visiting this area, just as an Australian friend did to us and another guest that arrived the last night we were there!! Small world and word travels fast!!
Thank you so much and don't go past!!

Our stay at Casa de Terena was the highlight of our trip to Portugal. Stella, our host (and pets Tommy and others) were so welcoming and genuine that we felt we had joined old friends. The house is charming, full of interesting art and items gathered from world travels. Comfortable rooms, posh bathrooms and a view of the rolling plains were great to come back to after a day of poking around villages and castles.

Stella offered great ideas for meals and sites and we followed up on all of them with 100% satisfaction! Oh, and the meals are out of this world.

We would go back to Casa Terena in a heartbeat and hope that we can.

If you want warmth, charm, peace, history, great food, great hosts go to Casa Terena. Brian and Susan from Edmonton Alberta Canada
