We spent 5 days here in mid June in the main farm house. We were welcomed by an employee who was leaving that afternoon, but it was a warm and helpful greeting. Phillip the owner was also very helpful when he introduced himself later that evening, he was also helpful with suggestions for trips out and a restaurant reccomendation. We were left dissapointed by the farm house. It is certainly large and has character, but the fittings especially in the kitchen were very short of luxurious as described in the advert. Also there are no shower curtains and although we asked for a hairdryer one never materialised. The pool area was a very nice place to sit and enjoy the afternoon sun but the terrace outside the main house was not so comfortable being the 'kennel' area for at least two of the farm dogs and always littered with dog dirt and many weeds. The whole farm stead could be much better maintained as there is a lot of potential in a very nice setting.

This is a lovely property in an even lovelier location. The lodge itself is very comfortable, well equipped, modern with very comfortable beds. The location is just superb, just a two hour scenic drive from Lisbon. The cork forest in May was just stunning, with the greenest grass and flowers in blossom. We took long walks through the forest as well as the vineyard. The dogs were so cute and friendly. The host, Philip, was very warm and welcoming, provided lots of helpful information and then just left us to it which was great. There is even wine available for purchase from produced from the vineyard. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. We hope to visit again one day soon. This magical place comes very highly recommended! Agro-tourism at its best :)

We enjoyed hot days in June relaxing in the well-kitted out wooden lodge and swimming in the pool after a walk through the cork farm. The tour of the cork farm and vineyard was interesting with Philip and fun hanging onto the benches added to the back of a truck. The friendly farm dogs followed us on walk to the village for a delicious evening meal in a local cafe. We did a bit too much driving and though numerous castles were worth exploring we enjoyed our days when we relaxed in the local area and soaked up the surroundings of the farm. Moons were brilliantly bright as we looked across to the huddle of goats. The evenings were rather windy with the trees waving wildly as the sun went down and it got cooler, but we had heard that Lisbon had bad weather during this time so we were lucky to get the heat during the day and swim in the Pool to cool off. We enjoyed a barbecue with tasty lamb from the farm and excellent wine. It's a private getaway.

Lovely! This was the best sleep of the whole trip. I can't say enough. If you are interested in Agro tourism, and an English speaker, this is for you!! Philip, the farmer and host, is very knowledgeable and super friendly. The wood cabin accommodations were serene.

During a holiday in Portugal, we stayed for 1 week at the main farm house at Herdade da Maroteira. This week brought us the necessary peace and quiet in a very spacious holiday cottage with 2 bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. The views from our private terrace were stunning. The farm consists of more than 500 hectares of land, so the location is very quiet.
The main farm house is the original building of this farm, established in 1702, according to the date at the chimney. It is filled with original features and breathes authenticity.
The kitchen is fully equipped, with dishwasher, oven, etc.

Philip, his wife and his brother were prefect hosts, but we really loved the 5 dogs, 2 of which always kept us company. Both the dogs and the swimming pool were a big hit with our children.

We visited several cities and villages, like Evora, Estremoz, Monsaraz. Our personal favourites were Castelo de Vide and Marvao. This part of Alentejo has a lot of historical villages and cities to offer.

What we didn't like ? Nothing really, maybe just the distance to the pool.
The swimming pool was a 5 minute walk from the holiday cottage, which, in summer temperatures, seemed a bit far.

Great place to explore Alentejo region. We had already been charmed by the montada trees before we even arrived at the woodlodge, driving over the Serra de Ossa and before. The lodge has a great view of this and them in the am and eve light. We took Phillips (as has been said before) very informative safari on our penultimate day, all saints public holiday before attending the bullfight at Rondo to see the horsemanship. We found plenty to do in the area despite the heavier than usual rainfall and it being end of season- Evora, Elvas had int. aqueducts, chapels, Campo Mejor Delta coffee museum, marble museum, sat market in Estremoz etc..there is a very helpful guide in the cabin of regional towns and places of interest. Lodge well-equiped and with aircon. Intrigueing march of the milked? goats past cabin each am with chocolha's ringing. Seasonal products for sale at farm-honey,cheese etc. Day we left the Pata negra pigs arrived for their 4 month feed on specially fenced off holm oak areas of the farm. As the interest in Alentejo vineyards incl. Phillip's open up I can see this more land locked area of Pg becoming more of a tourist destination. Presently the roads are very quiet.

"We strongly recommend this paradise for your holidays. The cabin is fully equipped, very comfortable and sufficiently isolated to allow total peace.

Philippe, Margarida, Mafalda and the rest of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Philippe's guided tour of the estate is recommended (you learn a great deal about cork and wines). The swimming pool is located in an excellent enclosed space, surrounded by fruit trees and distant enough to be of no bother. We will certainly return."
