“Comfortable and convenient.”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

Like the other travellers we were impressed by the entrance lobby and beautiful views but a little disappointed by the room itself, though it was clean, tidy and comfortable enough for our one nights stay. It is much like an English 'Premier Inn' but twice the price! The room was lacking tea/coffee facilities and a hair dryer!
The breakfast buffet was plentiful and tasty, with a selection of hot and cold food as well as continental meats and cheeses.
The staff were all very helpful to us and spoke very good English.
We chose this hotel as it is right next to Nordic Ventures so we were able not to rush up in the morning! They also allowed us to leave our car and luggage with them safely while we were out on a day trip.

The lobby area is nicely renovated but the room is small, dim and looks old. These negative points are compensated by nice lake view from the hotel room.

Breakfast & dinner buffet spread was limited and fruits are gone in few minutes. Look elsewhere if you have a choice.

There's a supermarket within 5-10mins walk in case you need to get something.

Tired, small rooms, but new and renovated reception-area. The breakfast was quite boring, only white bread and the soft boiled eggs were almost uncooked. Stayed here work-related.

I've been staying at this hotel for business a few times and it is always a pleasure to deal with the front desk staff. Efficient and easy check-in and outs, and usually no problem if you need to change things last minute. This hotel is packed with bus tour groups in the summer, so the breakfast room is usually very busy in the morning. The food is ok but nothing that stands out. Many of the rooms are in need of renovation, but still have comfortable beds and a fridge which helps if you're staying for some days. Ask for a room with balcony overlooking the lake, amazing views in the morning.

Stayed here with colleagues for a business meeting for 3 days in January. The hotel is large and comfortable with a great restaurant that has an excellent wine list. The breakfast is particularly good. Recommended.

Because I stupidly canceled reservations in Bergen without realizing there was a huge music festival that took every room in the region we stayed one night at the Park Hotel. The woman at the desk was fabulous as was the woman the next morning who found us lodging for the second night at Hotel Jarl. They went out of their way to be kind and helpful. The hotel is huge and very 70's. The room however was nice. We had a seating area and a separate desk. Wifi was great! Our windows gave us a view of the fjord. It was breathtaking. Didn't have dinner here. The breakfast was large and typical of the region. Parking was in a city lot where you had to obtain tickets from a nearby machine between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the back of the hotel.

My Dad is mad about wine and I have a passing interest in the stuff as well. I found out about Park Hotel poking around the internet reading about wine and discovered it has an outrageous collection of wines.

It may seem a bit excessive going to Norway for a meal but I find getting around the UK such a pain these days and the UK side of the trip was, as usual, the worst bit. Arriving in Bergen was nice with great views over a surprisingly blue coastline and the transfer to the train station pleasant since there isn't really an ugly part of Norway.

The meal was outrageous made of fresh local produce (stuff you will never see on a menu in the UK) and we had the 1996 Romanee-Conti which was, of course, far from cheap but, bearing in mind I'd rather pay proper money and get something than not enjoy myself saving money (I'd rather have a nice, MEMORABLE jolly somewhere that costs a fair bit than waste time in traffic jams in a hot car in the UK going nowhere slowly wondering why I ever left home)

Tips? DO go expecting to spend a load of money. Norway isn't cheap BUT it's pretty and the Norwegians don't like slumming it. There's quality everywhere and, unlike the UK, people in Norway actually go into the hospitality profession as a career.

As I said, I spent a lot of money on this trip but 1. my dad is worth it 2. I'm getting value all the time from the memories and 3. If you don't go out much (like me) dividing the cost of this trip a few times means it cost as much as 3 forgettable ordeals trying to enjoy the UK.
