Fleischer's Hotel

I am living in Voss now for a two-year-period, and I am absolutelu loving the place! It is such a lovely town to be in.

Fleischer's Hotel has a lot of stories to tell through 150 years of history. I think it is a charming and welcoming wooden hotel.

The two restaurants (main restaurant for included meals, Restaurant Magdalene and a la carte restaurant Seckmanstuene) are both great, but a bit pricy.

A lots of various rooms, depending on roomtype and location. I prefer a room overlooking the lake in the historical part. However, you can choose to live in the "new-building" in a most likely "business class room".

There's also an indoor pool-area including a svimmingpool, heated jacuzzi and sauna. Very nice although the svimmingpool is relativly small and you need to pay extra for the jacuzzi.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lake and a proper double bed, when available. (Mostly two seperate be...

It's a beautiful building just 100 metres from the train station - very convenient if you are arriving by train. The hotel is huge and we almost got lost between so many corridors, stairs, doors - which I found fantastic :)
The staff was friendly and breakfast very good.
The room we were in was spacious and comfortable and we had a great view to the lake. But we didn't like 2 things:
- the TV was old, very small and made a horrible sound, so we gave up trying to watch the Olympics (or anything else)
- the bathroom had a shower over tub, but without a shower curtain, so the whole bathroom was absolutely flooded after we used it, and although they come to clean everyday, I had to dry the floor and the toilet after we showered in order to enter/use the bathroom again.

Another thing is that we used their laundry facilities - the washing machine was fine but neither of the dryers were working properly. We paid I think NOK 10 for 15 minutes, but when we returned to get our clothes it was showing 44min...we waited a little bit longer, came back and it was showing 1h30mim. We left our clothes there for almost an hour and in the end they were still very wet, so we took it back to the room and dried there in the towels rack.

It's a nice hotel, but I suggest they replace the TV's, put shower curtains and also fix the dryer machines.

We stayed for one night as part of the Norway in a Nutshell experience. We were expecting a double room in the hotel but hadn't actually been able to specify this on the booking system. When we arrived we'd been given an 'apartment' across the road from the hotel - which turned out to be a row of concrete garages which contained bathroom/utility room with sink/bedroom with two single beds. It was cold and uninviting. We dragged our suitcases back up to the hotel and asked to have a room inside instead and pay the extra. The room had the same feel as the whole hotel - tired and worn at at the edges. It might be suited to some but wasn't to our tastes. The pool is quite small so only enjoyable at quiet times. NB you have to pay to have bubbles in the jacuzzi... this just seemed to sum up our experience in that it wasn't really as it had been advertised and we weren't impressed by the customer service. The only redeeming feature was breakfast - there was a good choice of breakfast food and also ham, cheese and bread to make sandwiches for lunch. Honestly it was the worst of the places we stayed in during our trip and didn't reflect the extremely friendly, comfortable and attractive hotels we found in other Norwegian towns.

We stayed 2 nights in this Hotel, wow it was such a surprise, beautiful breakfast, delicious 3 course dinner. The stay was included in our Norway in a nutshell, and what a joy it was. Thank you to all the staff especially the 2 Danish girls who served us our dinner.

A weekend at Fleischer’s Hotel turned out to be an amazing experience, and I really recommend a night (or more!) at this historical hotel built in an impressive Swiss style.

Fleischer’s Hotel is located right next to Voss train station (it is not a busy station, so you will not be bothered by sound etc.), and a short 10 minutes’ walk to the city “centre”. It will take you around 1 hour 20 minutes to get here from Bergen.

My room was spacious and situated in the “historical” part of the hotel (not all rooms are), and decorated in the same style as the public areas of the hotel. It was spotlessly clean, had very effective heating in the bathroom floor, and oh so comfortable arm chairs. My room was facing the lake, so it was not a problem to sleep with the window wide open. I do however understand the disappointment if you are not placed in the historical part... I was here on a conference, so I did not have to think about the price either.

The public areas of the hotel were truly impressive, and obviously very well maintained and well planned. It seemed to be all in the details, which I appreciated. In the main restaurant (Magdalene Restaurant) they serve breakfast (included in the room price), lunch and dinner. You will also find a more private á la carte restaurant, Seckmanstuene, which I truly recommend (the seven course menu was fabulous). If you do not fancy anything big, they also have a cosy bar, and it is just a short 10 minutes’ walk to the nearest supermarket.

The breakfast was very good, and you could see that they focused on local food and Norwegian specialities. I recommend not going down right before closing – it seemed everybody always had the same idea of a nice, late breakfast.

There is a spacious swimming pool at the hotel as well, and in the winter time they often have transportation to the ski lifts nearby.

The receptionists were all very friendly and helpful, and the same goes for the people working in the restaurants. When I forgot my cell phone, they were eager to help and sent it to me after a couple of days.

Room Tip: They do place you in the historical part whenever possible....

This hotel was included in the "Norway in a nutshell" package and dinner and breakfast were included. The hotel is old style with a huge dining room overlooking the lake, and backing onto the railway station. The room was comfortable, the food good and the staff helpful.
Arriving by bus and not by train we found it hard to find the entrance as the way to reception was not clearly labelled, so we walked a long way unnecessarily with our baggage. The easiest way to reception is via the train platform.

We chose to break our Oslo-Bergen journey with an overnight stop in Voss. This hotel was a superb place to draw breath and chill of a few hours. A magical historic hotel overlooking the lake and literally a short hop from the station (right out the back of the hotel). The service was first class, the room was large, clean, with a great bathroom and a wonderful view across the lake to the mountain on the other side. Beautiful! We used the hotel dining room for lunch, breakfast and dinner, and all were faultless. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more and get a front room overlooking the lake.
