“Really Disappointing”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

This was the worst hotel on our tour. Thank goodness we only stayed there 1 night.
Check in as usual was handled by the tour director. So it was quick and easy.
Lobby is small, so when you have a large tour group it can be a bit crowded. Once we had our keys, we went up to our room, which was a real let down. As we had become accustomed to on this tour, 2 single beds, again! Room was smallish, flat screen TV mounted on the wallnext to the bed, so one could get a neck strain watching TV. A swing arm would have been more practical. The decor of the room reminded me of a dorm room. White walls, grey carpet. At least we had a balcony. Bathroom was small, but adequate. Some previous reviewers complained about the thin curtains, and I thought they were being picky, however, they were 100% correct. Amazing really that they would have curtains like this when daylight hours are so long in Norway. The curtains were also no wide enough for the windows, as there were gaps between the curtains. However, this did not affect our sleep.

The buffet dinner was pretty decent, no complaints there, however, breakfast was a letdown compared to dinner.

Location was not too bad, close to the center of town.

Dear Guest,
I am sorry to hear that we were such a disappointment to you.
Yes, we have got several feed backs on our curtains that they are to thin. and we will seriously consider changing those thin curtains. Your comment about tv, that it should be possible to turn will we rember for next time we mount tv.

Yours sincerely,
Knut Lindstroem

The hotel had no warm welcome, served an overpriced dinner with even more overpriced drinks.
I am perfectly aware, that Norway is quite expensive....
We have not been asked if everything was satisfactory, no wonder, the owner seems to know, that nothing is satisfactory. The rooms are too small, with very soft beds. The pillows are small and to soft. The bathroom was partially dirty. All the windows in the hotel were dirty.

My opinion: This hotel was only built to take advantage of the coach tourists, who stay here just once. I stayed twice: The first and the last time in one go.

The hotel is an average hotel. The restaurant is OK. The rooms are OK with no curtains! If you go there in the summer, be aware of the sun light! ;-) The lobby is good, with free WiFi.
But the jewel in the crown are the hotel staff! They are SUPER friendly and funny! Really.
Try to find the Bulgarian musician, which is friend of the hotel family owners. His name is Lyuben (or something similar! :-( sorry Lyuben ... :-( Bulgarian is not my strong)

We slept here to make the crossing to the fjord the next day. Laerdal is a little and beautifull city and this hotel is a good optin for overnight. There is some confusion for breakfast when there are more than a group tour.

This hotel is next to the historical center of Laerdal village. It's a small town of 10,000 with its own waterfall. The building we stayed in is the newer 1960's cinder-block construction, not the cuter older wooden building.

The room itself is good size - enough room for our luggage. It's pretty basic decor but still comfortable and clean. A small 15 inch tube TV but no desk. There's a small hallway to the bathroom with its own door - makes it less noisy if somebody is sleeping and another is in the shower. The windows open out to the main street outside - nice breeze. The beds are comfortable with down comforters. There's no safe but there is one in the lobby. There's free wifi & 1 laptop in the lobby for vistor usage. The bathroom is in white tile and reasonably sized.

There's a co-op supermarket directly across the street - very convenient. There's also the sole restaurant along that street as well - if you don't want to eat the decent buffet in the hotel.

Some areas for minor improvement:
1) There's no place to put toiletries in the bathroom. It's a pedestal sink & nothing else.
2) There's only 1 garbage bin - nothing in the bathroom.
3) They only place 1 bottle of body-wash - have to move from the sink & shower as appropriate.

Though the hotel is a little basic, I think most people will be happy to be in such beautiful surroundings.

This hotel is an experience of how things used to be. The rooms were a good size but nothing great in the decor stakes. however they were clean and comfortable. We were lucky to get a room on the corner of the modern block which meant we had a small balcony and a bit more space. the nreakfast buffet was amazing and the dinner buffer was good too.
What makes this place special was the family who run it and the staff very hospitiable. They have several guest lounges and provided entertainment around a piano, had the fires burning and gave you the run of the place. Not so good if you just want to sit in your room, you need to get out and experience the hospitality and meet the other guests.
The town itself was a delight to wander through, very photogenic and an historic area.

We stayed at this hotel for one night and were made to feel very welcome by the owner. Our room was in the building which housed the gift shop/reception/dining area and looked out over the street. The room was a reasonable size with an opening window but unfortunately the curtains were too small for the window so the light prevented us from getting a lot of sleep. Cars were also parked beneath our window which caused quite a bit of noise during the night.

The buffet dinner was plentiful with a good selection of food. After dinner a pianist played in the sitting rooms off the reception area and this gave the guests the opportunity to mix and mingle. I felt like I was a guest in someone's home. Breakfast was adequate but very crowded because of several bus loads of tourists staying at the hotel.

The entire hotel has been better days and could use a renovation particularly the hallways with the stained carpet. Overall we enjoyed our stay because of the welcoming staff and "old fashioned" feel of the establishment. Free internet in the reception area was a definite plus.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street
