Stayed one night in this delightful hotel in a lovely little town
We asked and paid for a fjord room which had a lovely balcony on the 4th floor and fantastic views
It was lovely weather when we were there and could open the door to the balcony for fresh air
Beds very comfy with nice pillows and duvets
Bathroom had a bath which was great to soak in after a long day sightseeing in Norway
Also had a shower all very clean and enough room
We like our early morning cuppa and when I asked about this the receptionist (owners daughter) gave me a kettle and said take tea coffee and cups and milk to room if I wish
Which was great
They also have a lift which is great when you have suitcases as lots of old hotels and b and bs you have to carry up stairs
The breakfast was very nice usual things plus hot boiled eggs and as mentioned earlier no fresh fruit

Room Tip: Fjord room was lovely

Easily found the hotel a few minutes’ walk from the ferry/bus stop. We hadn’t arranged a pickup but found the owner there with her car so she took our bags. On check in she gave us a very informative run down of activities, restaurants etc. Our room was bright and comfortable with an amazing view and a spacious balcony. You really do need a fjordside room. The hotel also has a grass ‘beach’ with towels and shoes available, we had a lovely swim in the fjord and it wasn’t that cold. We had a picnic lunch provided by the hotel which was very good value, breakfast was good with constant restocking/refilling and we could take our coffee outside to watch the various boats and occasional dolphin go by. The hotel doesn’t do dinner but serves beer and wine which again are best enjoyed regarding the wonderful view. Seems from talking to other guests there are quite a few repeat visits and I can see why. Overall we felt very well looked after by this friendly, family-run hotel.

Room Tip: Fjord view rooms - otherwise why are you there?

The Balestrand Hotel is very comfortable, a short walk from the ferry dock. The owners take your luggage in their Volvo station wagon. We had a double rooms without a fjord view to save money, and it was very quiet. We sat in the lobby to read and do email with a great view and were not in the room much anyway. The breakfast buffet was fine, with the ubiquitous salmon, and cereal and hard-boiled eggs. The Balestrand/Marin County couple who run the hotel were very helpful, and the college graduate daughters help in the summer. The hotel is easy walking distance to “downtown,” walks along the shores and nature walks up into the hills. It is a nice place to take it easy, and enjoy the views. Have the buffet at the Kviknes Hotel one night.

Room Tip: The fjord view is more expensive. Only choose it if you will spend a lot of time in the room. When...

This is a relatively small hotel, owner managed, on the shore of a majestic Norway fiord. The views are amazing (be sure to reserve a fiord view). Owners are very helpful and speak American English - they spend winters in California. Rooms are a bit out of date and the exterior definitely uninteresting, but the location, views, and service make it worthwhile. Balestrand itself is quite small, but full of character. We did some great hiking in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a fiord view room

Nice hotel with a magnificent view over the fjord. Beds are fine, bathroom small but clean. Rooms and staircase looks a bit dated and old fashioned. Lobby is a nice place to read or to relax. Family that run the place is very helpfull. Pick up of luggage at the boat terminal. No fresh fruit at breakfast.

We stayed 4 nights at this small quiet family run hotel. It is set right on the fjord with fantastic views from the front facing balcony rooms. Balestrand is a small town with one very large historic hotel (Kvikes hotel) and a small number of smaller hotels. What was nice about this hotel was that it was quiet and peaceful with no large tour groups that you get in the larger hotels.

The family running the hotel were friendly and helpful and the facilities were adequate. There is no evening meal service, but this helps to keep the hotel quiet I guess. Restaurants are very limited in Balestand (see reviews).

We stayed in Balestrand one night in the middle of the Norway in a Nutshell tour. It was a very worthwhile detour. Although the town is very small, the ferry ride there is beautiful, and the town has great hiking trails. Unni-Marie was very responsive prior to our arrival, and her daughter met us at the harbor to drive our luggage to the hotel. The room was basic, but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great!

Room Tip: We did not pay extra for a fjord view, because there are plenty of fjord views outside.
