“Service can't be beat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

We can't say enough about how the service by the staff of the Kviiknes Hotel was above and beyond our expectations . On our journey to the Kviknes, we unknowingly took the wrong ferry (from Flam) down the wrong fjord, and we found ourselves with no way to get to Balestrand. We called the Kviknes and told them of our dilemma. They did the following for us: 1) arranged for a taxi to pick us up and take us across the mountain to catch a ferry to a nearby town, 2) the wife of the manager personally picked us up from the ferry dock (an angelic person!), 3) they provided us a complimentary meal in spite of our late arrival to the hotel. The hotel is amazing and the views were incredible! We were so thankful for all their efforts in giving our traumatic day a happy ending!

Room Tip: The rooms in the modern wing are just as charming as those in the original historical part of the ho...

We spent one night on a tour in Norway at this delightful, historical hotel and enjoyed the experience. Our room was in the large new wing but overlooked the fjord. The old section of the hotel has some beautiful sitting rooms with loads of interesting paintings and photographs.

There was no fridge in the room and very limited toiletries supplied. Breakfast was average but ample for our needs. Rooms are a generous size with a small balcony overlooking the magnificent view.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the fjord.

Even though my room was small and not in the beautiful old section of the hotel the stunning location and friendly attentive service made my two days there an absolute delight. The local nature walk provided a welcome few hours respite from normal sight seeing

The Kviknes is a Grande old dame of a hotel strategically located on a stunning fjord. In the romantic tradition, the entire first floor is a series of comfortable living-room like settings that just beg you to take off your shoes and enjoy a drink while soaking up the view. The hotel has been family run for generations, and the downstairs has quite an impressive art collection as well, with many paintings from Norway's romantic period. I recommend the old part of the hotel, even though there's no lift in that section. We had a Junior Suite (#222) with a private balcony and fjord view, just lovely.

Room Tip: We had a Junior Suite (#222) with a private balcony and fjord view, just lovely.

We stayed here for one night recently and though the dinner buffet looked good, we had to look for alternatives due to the steep price of almost 500 KR. We opted for the bar in the hotel which has a lighter menu and boy! Were we glad! The food and service was fantastic and we paid max.200KR per person for a nice entree and a drink!! We went there for dinner and lunch the following day and both meals were great in taste, quality and price! Our room was in the newer wing but still had a nice side way of the open fjord and a bit of the town. While leaving, the hotel offered to bring our bags down to the dock for the ferry as we planned to walk around town before getting on the ferry. But the ferry arrived and no bags!! Luckily, the hotel's back entrance (on your left when you get off the boat, it's a bit hidden but its there!) was close so we had to run uphill to grab our bags and run back as the ferry captain kindly gave us a minute to get our bags!! Hotel staff weren't too apologetic about it which was unpleasant. We didn't mind getting our bags ourselves..it was just the fact that they offered a service on a time-sensitive matter and didn't deliver. But the great experience at their bar offset this!!

We went on a holiday. The hotel was very nice. Our room, upgraded to the heritage block, was excellent with one of the best views of the fjord. We were lucky to see a rainbow from our room after a short burst of rain. Had never seen a rainbow so clearly.

The room itself was good with an olden days feel. An old style water sink in the room added to it's beauty. The breakfast was also tasty with a reasonably good spread. Service was very good. The ladies at the reception were very helpful. They offered to get our bags to the port, where we had to embark into our boat to Bergen.

Overall, we were delighted and are keen to return to Balestrand and Kviknes, if possible.

Room Tip: Do ask for the heritage wing with a view of the Fjord.

The catch is... You MUST stay in the old wooden building, on the side with a view and a balcony. Enjoy the breakfast and dinner buffet, an amazing selection of delicious food. Our travel agent picked the right place.
