On the river between the two main bridges in Mandala, this restaurant/bakery with a delightful roof terrace serves great food.

It's expensive by normal European standards, but so is Norway I guess.

We waited a little too long for our lunch to arrive, 45 mins or so. But good service and only to happy to help. I'd recommend and will visit again.

I know Norway as a whole is expensive but when you go somewhere where the prices are 20% more than anywhere else you expect the food to be great and the service as well. My girlfriends and i ate there 3 days ago and what a crock. When we first walked in we thought wow, stunning place, wonderful interior.
The reception we got was hardly friendly. We asked if we could sit anywhere and where hand waved to a table, would of been nice to of been taken there. Anyway we sat down and literally waited 15 minutes before we had to get up and go into the bar to ask if we could get a drink. We waited 10 minutes more and on the verge of walking out our drinks came. The waitress bought us menus and said she d return to take our order which she did 15 minutes later.almost 40 minutes since we walked in our order went away along with another order for drinks. We waited a ridiculous hour for our food and had been munching like starved animals on bits of bread. When the food did arrive it was shabby looking. I had ordered pasta which was completely bland and stuck together in a lump and un edible. I sent it back and had to wait for 20 minutes more for a new one which wasn't much better and with the explanation that the pasta was meant to be like that, al dente. As if i didn't know what that meant the waitress proceeded to insult me with explaining. Well it was nt al dente it was a soggy lump of pasta dough stuck together in a ball. My friends Pizza was ok although a little burnt on the edges and light on the filling but never the less edible. It is a shame that such a wonderful place in a wonderful setting is let down by the experience. I am glad i was just passing through and not local as i would never return. If you wish to go the go, will be interesting to see your views but if any sense stay away, there are many other places nearby.

The deck in the back of the restaurant affords a nice view of the water in Mandal. The tables are pretty packed in together, but if it's not busy, then there should be plenty of room. There's also inside seating that's pretty nice and roomy if you want to avoid the sun or it's raining.

The food has hits and misses. The biggest hits were the fresh baked bread (on-site bakery) and the beer they brew themselves. The bread they served with our meal (with oil and vinegar) and the sourdough my sandwich was on was AMAZING. Make sure you try some of their baked goods. The craft beer was pretty good as well. Not mind blowing, but definitely refreshing and nice (and much better than your usual offerings) on a warm summer day. We purchased some on-site roasted coffee beans which smell amazing, but haven't tried yet.

I got the club sandwich, which had wonderful bread and roasted pork, but it was a bit oily. It seemed to either have too much fat left over from the pork or was unnecessarily dressed. It was delicious (other than the oil) but was quite a challenge to eat and was certainly a knife and fork meal. My wife got the pasta of the day and was literally in a bowl of oil. The ravioli was mushroom stuffed, but the oil / oily sauce it was swimming in was so overwhelming the taste was muted.

The food there is good at the core, but some minor polishing (such as not so much oil) would have made the meal feel less heavy and greasy, especially when on a hot day. I would certainly go back there for some beers and other craft food, and did make a point to pick up some artisan bread on the way out of town!

Breews beer, destills liquer, wood fired oven for pizzas++, makes bread and roasts coffee beans. All this is available to visitors along with detailed explanations of the processes if acquired. Interested visitors is highly appreciated! Such high degree of dedication to drinks and food as Mette and Anders is displaying is very rare. A must visit place in southern Norway.

We visit provianten very often and we never regret. Provianten have one of the best environments, nice music and tasty food. Bear made in own brewery, bread and homemade ice is a top of the line! However, there is a place for improvements, lack of staff making every order to take longer than usually in such a high quality restaurants. Otherwise, Provianten is one of the best, for sure not only in Mandal, but in a whole Vest-Agder!
