The scenery is dramatic! Gaustatoppen towers above you and the hotel is right at the base of an alpine ski resort offering breathtaking views of the Rjukan Valley. There are also abundant cross country trails. The hotel itself needs upgrading, but the beds were nice and the food varied from average to excellent. For WWII buffs, you are just a few kilometers away from Vemork, the heavy water plant that Norwegian commandos sabotaged during the war. The raid set the Nazi production of an atomic bomb back by at least six months and was later immortalized by Kirk Douglas in the 1950s film "Heroes of Telemark."
