Good skifacility, fantastic scenery, helpfull staff, good food and a nice room.
In the evening we enjoyed the swimming pool and sauna.
This is a good 4 star resort. We spent 3 nights here and had a good time.

We choosed Gaustablikk in the first Place because of its skiingfacilities but were very pleasantly suprised by the Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell. We spent two Nights at the hotel in a double room. The room - as the rest of the hotel, was very clean and had everything we needed, including a great view at Mount Gaustatoppen. From arrival to departure, we experienced a warm and welcoming service and atmosphere. The hotel, built in 1970, has not lost its charm and cosy style but rather developed into a Perfect place to let the shoulders down and feel like home. Everyone, from the receptionist, to the roommaids and chefs, were friendly and observant. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and found both meals excellent. The breakfast buffet was very well assorted with everything on it. In the evening, we had a buffet the first night and three course meal the second, served by a very friendly waiter. We asked for extra sauce ( it tasted so good ), which was no problem. We like good Food and were not let down at Gaustablikk, it was fresh and had good compositions and variety. After dinner, we went to the bar and was served excellent by a swedish waiter. The bar invites for good conversations and is located close to the lobby and fireplaces. The hotel has a pool with damp sauna and whirlpool. The area is spacious and we relaxed there after a long day at the slopes. We live a busy life in the city, so visiting Gaustablikk, was just what we needed - a little break in the Mountains. We highly reccomend this hotel and we will for certain visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with view to the mount Gaustatoppen.

Many thanks for a fantastic stay at your beautiful hotel.
We are both very impressed by the standard offered on dining and scenery.
A very acomodating staff throughout our stay made our visit even more enjoyable.
From the receptionist to the restaurant staff - all of them went out of their way to ensure that we as customers had a pleasant stay. Impressed. Like coming home ...
The enthusiastic cooks also had prepared an amazingly varied menu . I.e wild game, sea food etc.
Wine list had also apparantly been carefully chosen

Scenery is fantastic and we con only Imagine how nice it must be when the winter season arrives with all those skiing oportunities in the area .

Tip: A hiking tour to the Gaustatoppen peak 1880 mtr above sea level ( 2 hours - walk) is a must do. On a clear day you see 'half' of Norway's mountain areas .

Rooms are decent standard and beds/bathroom are very good and clean.

Summarazed. Good value for money , we'll definetly be back.

Kan bare tenke oss hvor fint det må være når snøen er kommet.

Vi kommer gjerne tilbake -det er sikkert

Room Tip: Ask for room with mountain view.

I have to admit up front that we didn't stay here. We stopped to see what it was like, to get a couple of drinks, to use the WCs, and to look into stopping the next day for breakfast. For a supposedly 5-star accommodation, we were less than fully impressed. I used to work in the hotel industry, and I learned that you can tell a lot about a hotel from its common areas. We learned that these people seem lack pride and professionalism.
The lobby itself was attractive and quiet. That was the high point. The trash in the ladies room was overflowing onto the floor. Lacking a sudden, simultaneous arrival of six tour buses, I can think of no excuse for letting trash get to that point. The mens room smelled like a kennel - I'm not exaggerating, I've worked in kennels. Again, no excuse.
The desk clerk was pleasant, but his duties, with no apparent assistance, included manning the front desk, manning the adjacent kiosk, taking restaurant reservations, and bussing lobby tables for dishes and glasses. He did a nice job trying to keep up, but people were waiting at three places, when a true 5-star facility would not have tolerated such inconvenience to guests. At least two people were needed for the tasks he was performing.
We had our drinks on the deck looking out over a beautiful vista, and the dining room looked nice enough that we made reservations for breakfast rather than go for a less convenient alternative. That paid off, except for one rude server (Reviewed separately).
Typically, we aren't really all that picky. However, when you advertise a 5-star rating, you need to live up to it, and it's the little things that count.
We've both seen better, and we wouldn't bother going back.

Room Tip: Sorry, we can't help.

Unbelievable location and a breathtaking view to Gaustatoppen! This hotel is a unique and charismatic, such a great place to rest and relax.Very, very clean, wonderful food at the evening, rich breakfast buffet, professional and friendly staff. The hotel itself is not the newest and the most modern one, but as a mountain hotel it has everything what is needed for a unforgettable experience-there is so much nature around, lots of tour possibilities too.Fantastic place!!!

I was so excited to visit this particular hotel as it is up in the mountains and the pictures online made the resort look very upscale. I am one to appreciate spa hotels and am always on the search for luxurious hotels in amazing locations. I thought I had found these elements in the Hoyfjellshotel. This hotel is far up in the mountains therefore, when you arrive, dont expect to simply "run to the store" as there is nothing around other than mountains and lots of sheep. My boyfriend and I checked in easily and walked to our room. When walking to our room through the hallways, it reminded me of my college days as the building had that "dorm-like" feel to it. Upon entering the room, I felt like I was back in my college dorm. I decided to make the best out of the trip and to ignore the over-priced dorm room. We went down to the pool area only to discover that you had to go back to the front desk and purchase coins to use the spa/hot tub. That was a disappointment however, the steam bath was complimentary and was great. We rented a paddle boat for one hour which was also an additional expense. The food on site is expensive however, if you feel up for a 25-minute ride back down the mountain, there are 2 restaurants you can visit for 1/2 the price (which is what we did). We went hiking on Gaustablikk Mountain and the views are truly amazing. Overall, we had a nice time at this hotel however, I think for the price, the rooms should offer more comfort and be updated. Also, the hot tub/spa should be complimentary.

First of all - the view of the mountain form the terrace is out of this world! It can compete with the best views I have experienced from terraces in Whistler, Yellowstone, Vail, Lake Louise... You name it. It is quite simply world class.

That pays for the hotel by itself. And for Norwegian standards this is a very affordable hotel. About 1/5 of the premier hotels in the other destinations. So it is a bargain.

The rooms and the property itself is ok. I can not compete with a Fairmont ar FS resort in North America. But this is Norway and compared with the local hotels it is perfectly fine. With that in mind you will not be dissapointed. There is no air conditioning, but this is Norway and you rarerly need it.

We had the dinner buffet which was very nice. Starters and desserts was really nice. Entrees was ok. Breakfast was also ok.

The only thing I actually miss is a little fridge or something in the cooler.
