“If you have to choose only one restaurant ...”
Reviewed November 7, 2010

... go to this one. The dishes are fantastic, well made, nicely decorated. The cuisine is typical, umbrian, based on local fresh products, yet it looks quite modern. Their "Champagne menu" with 5 courses is just unforgettable - the ultimate ending of a romantic day. It included a starter, velvet soft celery soup, small portion of home made pasta (excellent), melting in the mouth lamb (this was done perfectly), and a dessert.
We went to Trevi in the season of the new oil and the celery, so those ingredients were used in some of our dishes. Each one of the dishes was unique and could go with the champagne. The bread in this restaurant was nice and crispy.

The restaurant is just under Hotel Antica Dimora alla Rocca, a very lovely hotel.
In the morning, the breakfast is served in the same restaurant and the breakfast includes home made cakes and real cappuccino.

“A serendipitous find: La Prepositura, a great restaurant in Trevi, Umbria”
Reviewed July 12, 2010

We happened upon La Prepositura when we drove into the lovely medieval hilltown of Trevi, Umbria, around 1:30 p.m. on a hot afternoon, thirsty, hungry and road-weary. We were in for a treat!
Most of the town was "closed" for siesta, but the door to La Prepositura was still open, so we went in. The place was cool and dim, with vaulted ceilings like a medieval wine cellar. (There is a terrace for al fresco dining that is open only in the evening.) We freshened up in a very clean, modern bathroom, something we really appreciated.
The chef, Giuseppe, periodically conducts a cooking school on the premises. We walked in at the end of one of his classes, just when he was about to close the restaurant for the day. But no problem.
He graciously seated us, then presented us with a complimentary glass of Prosecco and samples of the delicious bread and rolls baked that morning by his cooking class. (Note: Umbrian bread is often insipid, as it is made without salt and has a rather thin texture - but Giuseppe's creations were much better.)
We dined really well. Especially good was the trout wrapped around skewers of rosemary; nd a pasta dish with a sauce that included "oca" ( goose - a frequent find on Umbrian menus, and this one was excellent. We drank a half liter each of the local red and white wines which complemented the food very well, and were inexpensive to boot. (Note: You should order the local wines wherever you dine in Umbria -- they usually work very well with the uncomplicated, tasty foods of the region).
We intended to order just one dessert to share, but Giuseppe persuaded us to try two - and we are really glad we did! One was paticularly excellent -- a "torta di Spoleto" that I can only say was somewhat like a Sicilian cassata but had its own unique and delicious flavoring.
Then, with our coffees, Giuseppe surprised us with a dish of biscotti and cookies that were tasty and a perfect way to end the meal.
Ristorante La Prepositura is associated with the 4-star hotel Antica Dimora alla Rocca, but don't be intimidated - Giuseppe's prices are not that expensive.
We would definitely go back there, and we hope you try it. Enjoy!

“good restaurant in Umbria in a luxory four star hotel”
Reviewed April 30, 2010

we use to check the tripadvisor review before we go in an hotel or restaurant. here in trevi we have seen the restaurant La prepositura with 12 reviews all excellent and only one not positive. one to 12. we decided to go for dinner at the Prepositura restaurant. and we agree with the other 12 clients who gave the evaluation as excellent. the experience was excellent. the food was a dream, the service very professional and discret. excellent value for mony we payed € 25,00 per perosn for a four courses menu included a good bottle of wine Sacrantino di montefalco. we had strangozzi ( hand made pasta) it was delicious and we asked the maitre D. how they make it , the cusine chef, Giuseppe, came personly to explain me the way to make this kind of hand made pasta, very kind of him. the restaurant is part a four star hotel, it is a 16th century building located in the historical center of Trevi. we will come again with our friends. it is a goosd place to stay. all was to our satisfaction

Great pasta (that tasted like noodle, not like sauce), tasty meats, and most yummy deserts. Service was excellent, professional and had very good command of English. A delightful place which I would not hesitate to visit again.

Not on the cheap, but I rather pay 40 Euros for a quality meal, than 25 or 30 in one of the - unfortunately - many substandard restaurants in Italy.

Try La Prepositura, you wont regret it.
