Wonderful old building with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. Pool was a 5 minute walk from our apartment - nothing our kids couldn't handle, and they had a great time in the water. The staff were friendly and helpful, and organised pool-side entertainments on Fridays plus complimentary breakfasts in the main courtyard on Sundays - a great way to meet fellow guests. The location made it easy to visit various towns in the Chianti region and out as far as Siena - but be prepared for the unpaved road that leads up to the Castello itself, about 10 minutes drive-time from the main road out from Montevarchi via Nusenna.
One of the reasons we chose the place was because although remote, it had a restaurant so, with a small child, this would make things more convenient. When arrived unfortunately we learned that the location was mainly a summer holiday resort (there are numerous holiday apartments there) so the restaurant was closed. The location is quite a few miles drive from supermarkets or towns with restaurants down very narrow hill roads so make sure the restaurant is open or you are well stocked with food.
Views are amazing and an atmospheric place. Accommodation itself is good standard but certainly not luxurious. Probably much better in summer. People who worked there were very helpful to us though, particularly Kumal.
