“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

This is a great place with a teriffic staff in an amazingly beautiful part of the world. It's a welcoming and relaxing place that's very nice, but not super stuffy.

You absolutely must try dinner in the dining room -- the food is some of the best we had in Tuscany. And you get 10% off if you're a guest (I thought I should mention this since I noticed another review trashing the prices -- they are completely reasonable, and comparable to other nice restaurants in the area).

Pros:
- amazing food (they even make their own breads every day)
- clean rooms
- fast hairdryers in rooms (big deal if you have long hair)
- nice soaps in rooms
- beautiful surroundings
- big breakfast (in cellar that was built in 970)
- great hiking and biking trails
- free bikes
- great wine
- very friendly and welcoming staff
- free parking

Cons:
- Thin walls so sound travels. Thankfully for us, this was not a problem as the other guests, like us, seemed to pick up on this fairly quickly.
- Squeaky beds, but they were comfortable and had great pillows.
- I can't imagine anyone coming to Chianti to watch tv, but in case you're the reason there was a tv in our room, you should know that the tv in our room was pretty small. this was fine for us as we didn't actually watch it, but on the plus side, we were told it had all sorts of channels and movies.

My husband and I loved this place. We are already planning our next visit! I noticed a room with a nice fireplace and seating area, and might try to take that one next time. That said, our room was prefectly fine (and the least expensive the offer). Stay in this place -- it will be a highlight of your vacation. :)

Catching up with my reviews so feel I have to start by saying we stayed at the hotel for five nights in June 2012 whilst on our month tour of northern Italy.

The hotel was well sign posted and therefore easy to find. A welcome drink was offered on arrival and check in was dealt with efficiently.

I’ve split my review into good and not so good points so here goes:-

Good Points:-
Management very kindly upgraded us from a junior suite to the main suite of the hotel. The rooms in the suite are very large with separate sitting area, dressing room, two bathrooms and a very comfortable bed. Heaven!
There is an outdoor and indoor pool both of which are well maintained. The gardens are beautiful and pleasant to sit in. There are plenty of shady spots if one doesn't like sitting in the sun.
The quality of food on offer at breakfast and dinner (we didn’t eat lunch in the hotel) was very good but (dinner) very pricey. The wines were also over priced.
I sent several items to laundry and these were returned the same day – excellent service.

Not So Good Points:-
Service at breakfast and dinner was, to say the least, chaotic. On two occasions at dinner we were mistaken for another couple and given their food order. My husband and I do not like being kept waiting to be seated at our table while the staff huddle together chatting and, on one night in particular, were heard to be arguing loudly between themselves. I even witnessed the head waiter trying to take away a guest’s dinner before she had finished eating it! Incredible! Trying to obtain an after dinner coffee was impossible so we gave up in the end. I do not expect this type of hit and miss service in such an establishment and certainly not at the prices the hotel charges.

Conclusion:-
Management need to spend more time walking job and speaking to their guests……not once did we see any member of the management team doing this and the overall service reflected it......poor.
Would we stay again…....absolutely not.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view over the valley and ask if it has a balcony or terrace....most rooms have...

Castello di Spaltenna is an ancient Church with tower-bell dating back to year 1000, which has a wonderful view. Having breakfast in the garden is such a joy, while seeing green cypresses, colorful flowers and vineyards. Rooms are clean and big enough. And you may have your most comfortable sleep in this silent environment.

I don't feel I need to say alot about this place, it already has great reviews.

Few things i will mention though :
Breakfast was great - my incredibly-fussy-about-food french partner mentioned this was the best breakfast we had on our tuscany trip
view from our room was amazing to wake up to
golf umbrellas provided at reception ... little things really count!

overall, great place with real character, on top of a hill with amazing views over the vineyards.

This hotel was a perfect end to our Italian holiday. We felt like royalty and were transported back in time from the moment we walked in.
The property was beautiful and full of history, an old monastery restored into a quality place of relaxation. The views of the country side were beautiful, the rooms were comfortable in size and quality and the service was 6 star.
Our room was upgraded on arrival as it was the down season and they did not have many guests. We enjoyed the pool, gym and sauna which we had all to ourselves and my partner indulged in a massage which he said was amazing.

We ate at the resteraunt both nights, delicious meals and excellent service.
We would return to this hotel in a heart beat.

Room Tip: We enjoyed unwinding with a bath each day.

We went there for honeymoon, looking for quietness and a peaceful place.
We had it !
As we stayed 5 days, we had a junior suite in a tower, at the very high part of the place. It was just great.
Nice room, kind people and good ideas for visiting around.
The "minus" thing was the restaurant. Maybe too creative for us. Maybe, too international for us. non realistic price for the place compared to competitors.
Nonetheless, we loved the place
Oh ! I forgot, there is cable tv, now...

Room Tip: Choose the junior at thne aisle

Myself and my husband visited Tuscany for our honeymoon in the second week of October 2012. We did a fair bit of travelling around; Florence, Pisa, Siena and finally Chianti.
When we arrived at this hotel, we were immediately met by the hotel's Concierge, who came and collected our luggage from our hire car. The receptionist who checked us into our room, was very friendly and polite and showed us into our upgraded 'honeymoon' suite! The room was beautiful, with a big double bed, a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi (Not to mention all the products!) and we had a beautiful view overlooking the Tuscan Countryside.
The hotel staff were all so knowledgable about the local area and were able to suggest great places to walk, eat etc....
We went Horse riding on our second day, which the receptionist kindly booked for us. We had such a lovely time and would really recommend it. It is only a 5 minute drive from the hotel.
We ate lunch in the restaurant on our first day there and the outside terrace was beautiful and was everything that we had imagined Tuscany to be. Great food and the service was second to none! We also dined in the hotel restaurant for our evening dinner on the first night. It was amazing! Although, very expensive!!! But, we could not fault the service. We have never seen anything like it! Due to the high price, we chose to eat out in Radda for the next two nights. The hotel was happy to recommend a lovely restaurant. We did explore the local town, but we were not impressed, as there were hardly any good restaurants or things to do. You do need a car, when staying at this hotel!
The breakfast's every morning were great, with plenty of choice. It is made that extra bit special if you are able to eat outside on a sunny Tuscan morning!
We used the hotel's swimming and sauna facilities. The pool is lovely, although a bit small and could do with being staffed. But, it was an amazing feeling swimming, whilst looking at the views of the Tuscan hills.
All in all, this hotel was amazing and we highly recommend it for a 'Honeymoon' destination.
Thank you so much!
