We were send over there by our very nice B&B (Cavarchino in Gaiole). It's a little bit more expensive but nevertheless very nice. The road up there is beautifull and quiet. The restaurant has a nice interior with a kitchen that you can see from the restaurant. The menu is quite small, but they made some efforts for me as a vegetarian. The pasta with asparagus was delicious and my boyfriend had the best lamb chops ever there.

The restaurant is at the foot of the castle. One can work up his or her appetite by first visiting the castle and walking the gardens, museum etc. We made reservations and went there on 29th of May.

We ordered the huge salad, selection of cured meats to start and for mains, ordered two kinds of pasta (gnocchi and the ravioli) and of course the grilled florentine beef. For dessert, we had the tiramisu and the chocolate cake. The beef and dessert were really good. The selection of wines are from those they produce at the Castello. They also produce olive oil by the way.

I would go back again as I liked the fact that the restaurant is hidden away and gives us something to look forward to after a hour or so of touring the castle. Service was fine and ambience very relaxing.

Marginal food, poor service and a less than stellar ambiance.
This is not at the castle, it is below.
It's the kind of restaraunt where large tour buses eat at. (one came in with 50 people while we were there) Cafeteria food.
There are so many amazing choices in the area why go here?

We are locals and had never tried the restaurant before although we had heard good feedback from visitors to the area. A fixed menu was offered at a price of EUR 60pp, including wine and dessert. Dinner started off with a pre-appetizer of swordfish with a tomato-based sauce and was followed by the first of two appetizers: a sea bass hamburger over a bed of julienne vegetables (carrot, leek and artichokes). As the second appetizer, we had large juicy broiled sea scallops over a bed of spinach. Two "primi piatti" segued: fish-filled ravioli with a fish broth and tagliatelle with shrimp and chicory. The main course was lobster served over cotechino and lentils. Each course was offered with a different wine from the Barone Ricasoli vineyards. The abundant dessert included a chocolate torte, fresh grapes (Italian tradition) and dried fruits and nuts with Franciacorte Docg sparkling wine. The restaurant was practically sold out. The service was very good and well-timed so that we went from one course to another slowly, and ended up finishing our meal just as it turned midnight. The experience included only a few minor shortcomings (some food items could have been hotter, and in our opinion, the cotechino did not work that well with the lobster and there was too much food served). Overall, it was a very pleasant evening at a very reasonable price.

We normally avoid places that Trip Advisor contributors slate, but this restaurant is 5 minutes from our rented house: and the comments are truly polarised, so we thought we'd give it a try.
Delighted that we did: The staff were lovely, as was the food. We asked the chef what she would recommend, and she guided me to the squab pigeon, which was lovely. True, there is no desert menu: but there are deserts....we asked her what she would choose from the selection, and her choice, of coconut mousse, was lovely and light.
We can't comment upon the view: it was pitch dark, but we can say that we really enjoyed our dinner. Not Haute Cuisine, but really good Tuscan fare, served with a smile.
