“Great experience!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2012 via mobile

During our holidays in Tuscany I arranged for a guided tour and wine tasting at Casa Sola. We were welcomed by Maria, and she gave an excellent tour to the premises, showing us in detail how the wine and olive oil were produced. Following this, we went to the tasting, where again some excellent explanations were provided by Maria.
We very much enjoyed this private tour, just for the six of us.... And according to the kids, this was one of the best excursions of the holiday (and they even did not taste the wine ;-))!

This guided tour is surely to be recommended! Thank you Maria for this wonderful experience!

My family and I booked 4 nights at Casa Sola based upon recommendations from a previous guest and agreed to their non-cancellation policy. We were to spend one night in a one bathroom unit and three more in a two bathroom unit. We arrived late on a holiday evening with the office closed, but a key and directions provided in an envelope. So no adjustments were possible that evening.

Our unit was filthy and in it we discovered over 25 large daddy long-leg spiders. Before the discovery one of them dropped into my son's wineglass and he almost swallowed it. He was so upset he was nearly catatonic for a day. We felt imprisoned the entire evening but doubted we could find alternative accommodations till the next day. My other son and I spent 2 hours sweeping the entire unit to find and remove all spiders. The amount of dust we uncovered was extraordinary. In the morning the office manager refused to let us cancel the remainder of our reservation. She suggested the spiders must have been born "yesterday after the cleaners cleaned the unit". Apparently she thought we were born yesterday. They showed us a "much better unit" to which we were scheduled to move, but the ceiling of each bedroom was infested with bugs. In addition, the units are extremely rustic with no electronic conveniences such as a microwave or a coffeemaker. We left and contested the charges with Visa, but lost the dispute because of their documented no cancellation policy. At least we didn't have to spend any more time in fear and discomfort at Casa Sola.

Our recommendation: unless you are perfectly happy with a bug infested environment provided at first class prices, we suggest you limit your Casa Sola travel to wine tastings.

We've just returned home from a week at Fattoria Casa Sola. Casa Sola is a beautiful property and we had a great time with our friends and family who were staying with us at the farmhouse. However, the property manager Ilaria soured our experience and we will never return and warn anyone who wants to visit to stay away!!! My husband and I were planning our wedding in Italy and after speaking to Ilaria, chose Casa Sola since Ilaria said she was also a wedding planner and would waive all her fees since we were booking all the apartments on the property for 1 week. Once we wire transfered all our money to Ilaria the communication breakdown started to happen. We ended up doing all the planning ourselves. We had to find our own photographer, we had to speak to the caterer ourselves who ended up being an even worse nightmare showing up the night before the wedding demanding more money from us, arrange the oficient ourselves...in the end Ilaria did nothing but cause us headaches and didn't even show her face again until we checked out. She didn't check on us on the wedding day or even the day after. We were on our own. Since I have the best family and greatest friends the event was spectacular (no help to Ilaria or Casa Sola).
Two days after arriving we all went on a wine tour at Casa Sola. The tour was great and the wine is amazing. However, at the end of the tour Ilaria addressed all our guests and asked them for an extra 200 EUR CASH deposit! Why wait 2 days and why never mention this before we left for Italy?!
Fattoria Casa Sola also advertises free wi-fi but it's located 800KMS away from the apartments so you need to drive to access the wi-fi and 80% of the time it was not working and there was never anyone there to help. Ilaria said she or someone from Casa Sola would be at the office from 9-5 if we needed anything. But there was never anyone there after 1:30PM. We were promised one evening when they pool area would be lit up and we could swim after dark; that never happened. There are laundry services available for a fee but they were always in use by the staff at Casa Sola who spoke no english and were never any help.
In each room there was a list of items that were to be in each room (cups, plates, fridge, etc) and at the end of the week all those items had to be in your room or they would charge you. However, when we looked at our lists more than half the items were missing including toasters and microwaves. When we went to the reception to talk to them about the list and missing items they produced another list that was different than ours but they still didn't match. In the end they didn't charge us for any missing items but it was a stressful ordeal that took away from our vacation.
We also were provided with a breakfast at a fee of 5 EUR a day/person that was supposed to include bread, jams, fresh fruit, coffee, tea. When we arrived the fruit was replaced with pre-packed tarts. When we questioned this Ilaria said the owner didn't have time to get fruit so he just got us the tarts instead; no refund. The food was not brought each day as assumed but one time in a large quantity. You can imagine how fresh bread stays over a week in the humidity and heat of non-air-conditioned apartments in July in Italy.
In the end the vacation was great because all our friends and family were there and the setting of tuscany is amazing. However, Ilaria and the team at Casa Sola made it more stressful than a vacation should be. There are many villa's out there, keep looking!!

Room Tip: Bring extra toilet paper, get your own breakfast, and don't let them push you around for extra m...

After leaving a place a bit closer to Florence because of numerous problems, we stumbled upon Casa Sola in need of a place to stay. The staff was wonderfully accommodating and helpful. They provided a special gift for my wife’s birthday and gave us many suggestions for how to visit the Chianti region. When we had a problem with the rental car, Ilaudia helped us with the Italian only rental agency. You really would need a car to easily reach the location, but it is within 45 minutes drive from Florence, Sienna, San Gimignano, Grieve, Panzano and many other beautiful small towns.

The surrounding of casa sola are absolutely beautiful. The staff were open and friendly and gave great recommendations. We were however disappointed that the swimming pool wasn't open, although previously advised that it would be. We stayed in the blue appt which was on the basic side. The kitchen didnt have a kettle, oven or toaster. Also the beds werent very comfortable! We were slightly confused as to why additional pillows and toilet roll were at extra cost. We were glad to see a bottle of wine to welcome us to this beautiful area of the world though!

This was a return visit to Casa Sola and once again, we had a wonderful experience. This time we left from Canada and flew direct to Firenze. Within an hour of landing we had picked up our rental car and we were in the Salvia apartment - a much easier trip than traveling via Rome. We unlocked the door of the Salvia apartment to find a bottle of Casa Sola’s special Riserva waiting for us in celebration of my birthday - even matching the year of production of the Riserva to our last visit! That was pretty special attention to detail from their amazing office manager, Ilaria. The Salvia is a very special apartment for us - not just the amazing view and structure of the villa itself but the spotless housekeeping and crisp linens, no telephones, no TV - just the sounds of the wind, occasional wild boar control and a few rain showers (we were there in November). This location gave us the downtime we were seeking after a busy fall schedule. After unwinding, we took walks around the farm and made our way down to the office to visit and hookup to WiFi to check on things back home. It was quite a unique feeling when we were even remembered by the owners - this is a place that pays attention to their clients! (they also continue to share their knowledge of wine and olive production as well as advice on travel to other regions, local special places and events of interest). The olive oil and wine produced at Casa Sola is excellent quality and very reasonably priced. Ilaria arranged for cooking lessons at the apartment. This was a terrific evening and our chef truly enhanced our appreciation of Italian cooking and culture. Casa Sola is an excellent base to pick out your own local groceries and cook at "home", check out the historical sites and shops in Castellina, Sienna and Firenze or just enjoy the ambiance of Chianti. The advice, friendly greetings and service offered by the staff and owners makes Casa Sola our favourite home away from home in Chianti.

Spent 8 nights at the Casa Sola (White Apartment) during the middle of September. Beautiful setting in lovely countryside, near the charming village of San Donato. Great location - approximately half-way between Florence and Siena. It was the perfect home base for touring all of the beautiful surronding villages & towns in the Chianti Region of Tuscany. The buildings on the estate were lovely, quaint. The vineyards/olive trees made the setting perfect. Staff were patient and helpful - many thanks to Maria, Ilaria, and Mateo. For four Canadian ladies touring Tuscany for the first time, it was ideal.
