This restaurant was recommended for being family-friendly, casual dressing and serving authentic Tuscan cuisine. We sat on a gorgeous terrasse, ate great authentic cuisine (fantastic raviolis and grilled meats) with local wine, all at a very decent price. We tried to go again for a second night, again without a reservation, but the place was fully booked. No wonder it rates as 1st in the area. Well worth it, but try to make sure you make a reservation ahead.

What a find. Felt like a true Tuscan experience. We were not sufficiently adventurous to try some of the offal on offer but the pasta was amazing. I had perfect gnocchi. Yummy veg too. The puddings all sounded fantastic. The children loved the warm chocolate cake and my biscotti with sweet wine were divine. Great friendly atmosphere too with very friendly staff. Thank you.

We visited La Sosta one evening on the recommendation of the owner of our holiday villa, who regularly eats at this family-run restaurant in Barberino Val d'Elsa. We were very glad we did. On arrival, the restaurant was busy with many local diners and tourists alike in a comfortable, homely setting. Service was attentive and informative, with certain dishes explained when requested. The mixed antipasto was fresh and varied, including cured meats, tapenade and a range of soft cheeses. For mains, the green tagliatelle with sautéed onions was enjoyable. The star of the show was the wild boar in peppercorn sauce; tender morsels of rich, moreish meat which was perfectly complimented by the Chianti. Sides of rosemary potatoes and salads were also delicious and well-prepared. Finally to dessert: the chocolate torte was rich, bitter and sticky. The chilled jar of mascarpone and Nutella was simple but divine! This restaurant prides itself on providing hearty, typically Tuscan fare and based on our dining experience, it certainly fulfilled its promise. Highly recommended.

Where do I start....
Roberto and his staff are so accommodating. We first visited here in 2011 when staying locally whilst looking for a wedding venue for 2012.
The menu is quaint, with local produce used, very reasonably priced and great portion sizes!!
we have never been disappointed in our dining experience. You can sit inside or our - we prefer either. Service is spot on.

We decided to have a lunch here the day we were married in Barbarino Val De Elsa - Roberto was very accommodating, prior to arranging our menu via email communications, there were approx. 30 people with us and everyone was catered for - excellent value for money, if anything we thought too inexpensive!!
We also had a friends 30th birthday celebration where we had arranged with Roberto to organise a fantastic traditional fruit birthday cake, again no trouble and not alot of expense.
Wine list averagely priced, staff are really good at recommending the best wine to compliment their delicious food.
Family friendly also and very accommodating.
Amazing Florentine Steak - unfortunately I could not eat it this time due to being pregnant - therefore I am patiently awaiting our next visit in may 2014 to try again!
We have visited La Sosta del Pio VII many times for lunch and dinner and never been disappointed, we have been extremely lucky to taste a wide variety of the menu and wines.

We cant wait to return!!

We were staying in Barberina Val d'Este without a car. When we called the restaurant we asked
about taxis but the friendly owner offered to come and pick us up and returned us after a great dinner in this rustic Tuscany place. We had a meal different to the tourist meny you are often offered in Italy and it included wild boar. Very friendly young staff and reasonable prices.
Highly recommernded!
