“Great wine in a beautiful setting”

Castello della Paneretta

Attraction details
Owner description: The medieval castle and winery is situated in the Chianti Classico area on the western slopes of the Elsa valley, looking towards San Gimignano. In 1577 Ludovico Capponi restored the castle and commissioned Bernardino Poccetti, important painter, to fresco the loggia of the court. Production of wine is documented from 1596 on and until today we preserve the tradition and in our vineyards grow exclusively tuscan grape varieties which were used for high quality wines.

“Great wine in a beautiful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Visited the winery with a small group. Greeted warmly upon arrival by a charming young lady who spoke impeccable English. She was the fourth generation of her family to have worked at the vineyard. She was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the winery, the process from harvest to bottling, and the pairing of wines with food. After the tour we gathered in an elegant dining room in the castle for wine tasting. This consisted of three wines, meats, cheese with honey, and a dessert wine. Everything was delicious! There was also no pressure to buy at the winery. That being said, we did have six bottles of wine shipped home and have therefore been able to extend our enjoyment of the chianti classico experience at home. If you have the time and the opportunity, do not miss this winery tour.

“One of the highlights of our visits to Tuscany!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2012

My wife & I and friends of ours (another couple) recently did a tour of Castello della Panaretta and it was one of the absolute highlights of our entire trip! The castle and the grounds are spectacular and the wine tour was brilliant. Patrizia gave us a terrific education in the entire process from growing to harvesting to fermenting, casking and bottling. She was extremely informative in explaining the nuances and guidelines of DOCG and the differences between Chianti Classico and other wines of the region.

The tour ended in the grand dining room which was right out of a movie. You can imagine kings, queens and other nobles enjoying a lovely meal with bottles & bottles of amazing wine. We paired the Classico Riserva with a little cheese drizzled with home grown honey and the flavors were not to be believed!

Speaking of amazing wine… Castello della Panaretta produces some of the most amazing vintages we had the opportunity to enjoy during our holiday (and we enjoyed A LOT of different wines during our trip). We shipped two cases back to the states and have all intentions of having more sent in the future. We also shipped 6 bottles of Patrizia’s fabulous honey – it’s unlike anything you’ve ever tasted before!

For anyone visiting the greater Chianti area looking for a place to enjoy some outstanding wine I would HIGHLY suggest contacting Patrizia at Castello della Panaretta and arranging a private tour – it’s definitely time well spent!

“Excellent wine tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

As soon as we arrived we felt instantly welcomed. Chiara, our guide, welcomed us at the door and started the tour. She spoke excellent English and talked us through the wine making process. She answered any of our questions. The tour also included a history of the castle. Chiara showed us into the castle, down through the cellars and then into the magnificent wine tasting room.

We had booked to taste 3 wines. Chiara showed us 3 wines, but then also a desert wine and two types of honey. The cheese, meats and bread, whic accompanied the wine, were also delicious.

It was very reasonable to ship 6 wines back to the uk, but there was no pressure to do this. The wine was so delicious we couldn't resist!

The setting of this wine tasting tour, was absolutely fantastic. Amazing views of Tuscany and the castle also looks fantastic with fresco paintings on the wall. We would definitely recommend this tour.

What a wonderful lunch and tour. Chiara our guide was well informed and delightful. We felt like family by the time we left. We even met the gracious son and wife of the owner on our way out. We felt like we had made new friends.
