We had a wine-tasting visit and were thrilled with the wonderful food and very good wine. We were visiting with our adult children who had never experienced Italy. Our host was warm, friendly, and very knowledgable about the entire process, from grape vines to new wine to finished, aged (and delicious) wines. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and our "kids" had their world-view expanded.

I host small groups of photographers to Italy and France and this was my first visit to Sicily, with a total of ten participants. The owner Fillippo met us at the property, which is quite secluded, a few kilometers off the paved road. There are two small apartments in the farmhouse which also houses the restaurant. There are two modern buildings close by with two double rooms each. The accommodations are quite spacious, clean and comfortable. With a group of ten, issues can arise, but the staff is competent and friendly, and will do what is necessary to have you enjoy your stay. This is the real Sicily! Vineyards of numerous grape varieties cling to the hillsides. You can spend time walking around the hills and valleys, passing sheep and perhaps a goat or two and seeing buildings that have survived the centuries. The cuisine in the restaurant is excellent, as is the service. Lucretia, our chef for our time there, is accommodating to any special needs and can really cook up some authentic, country style Sicilian dishes! This will continue to be our home in Western Sicily every year.

Four of us (two couples) stayed here for two nights in October. We chose Agriturismo Tarantola because we would have a chance to take a cooking class there. We were ready to a couple of low-key days. When we arrived, Sevario brought us a plate of olives and cheese which we enjoyed at the outside tables. Dinner in the small restaurant was outstanding: thinly sliced and grilled zucchini, fried green peppers & onion and small patties made with eggplant and breading. This was followed by a thick spaghetti with an arabic pesto (basil, mint, rosemary, thyme), then pork on wooden skewers and salad, white melon with a cherry sauce and a ricotta torta.
Our cooking class was the next day at 11:00. We had such fun with the cooks Lucrezia and Sevario. Filippo (the owner) joined us also . I was afraid the class would be very simplistic but this meal that we helped to create had a lot of parts-- panelle, sfincione, beef braciole, pasta al forno and cassatella (similar to ravioli but filled with ricotta and sugar). The wine made there is very good and we had both the red and the white-- not to mention the homemade 'cellos' (limoncello, as well as varieties made with orange, with wild fennel, marjoram, etc. All in all, this was a delightful stay. The accommodations were quite comfortable as well.

Room Tip: We did not see all of the rooms. We stayed in a separate building with two identical rooms. There...

My husband and I spend three peaceful nights at Agriturismo Tarantola. It's about 20 minutes outside of Alcamo and while the directions are tricky to get there the first time you arrive, their website is very helpful in guiding you there. We could not have been happier. It was a great place to use as a base to exploring western Sicily. Because it was out in the country you had a sense of rural life in this part of Sicily. Our room was large, clean, comfortable and over looked the vineyards. The food was very good and plentyful. The staff Saverio, Lucrezia and the owner Filippo were so very helpful and accomodating. I took the cooking class from Lucrezia and Saverio. What a great experience! And the food that we cooked (and later ate) was absolutely fantastic. We highly recommend Agrituriosm Tarantola.

We spent 2 nights here at the end of a trip to Sicily and took the opportunity to book cooking lessons during our stay. It was a great experience (although being able to speak Italian would be a definite advantage for this activity). The best part was beign able to sit down afterwards and enjoy your efforts with a bottle of the vineyards yummy wine! Fillipo is an excellent host and was on hand to help with the language barrier.

It is a located a short drive from the nearest town so be prepared for the isolation and do not expect to be waited on hand and foot. But the staff are very helpful and we wanted for nothing during our stay.

If you have the chance, take home some of their home grown olive oil and wine. We are well into our olive oil stock and are now hoping we can get some shipped to us with a few more bottles of their Nero d'avola!

Highly recommended for the hospitality and to step off the very well beaten tourist path.
