The Palazzo Failla is a lovely old family home that has been converted into a hotel. The modern rooms in the annexe are more comfortable than those in the main building but lack the same character. Breakfast is very good. The staff are friendly and dispense good advice although they do tend to recommend their own resaurants rather than others unless pressed. I thought that the prices of the rooms were very reasonable.

We stayed for one night in Plazzao Failla and I wish we could saty longer. It's a real Palazzo tasyefuly turned into hotel that deserve well its title as one of the best hotels in Sicily. The rooms are spacious, the old charm was kept together with every possible amenety . The owners and staff are warm and welcoming, they made the place into a gem, and they will do their best to make you feel at home. The Palazzo has two restaurants ( which we did not try but one of them gained a Michelin star) and a lovely breakfast is served in one of them.

We stayed five nights in Palazzo Failla to visit the Baroque Sicily. The room was very well restored and clean, the breakfast with excellent fresh produce. We had half board at the Locanda del Colonnello, indeed a very good restaurant with local dishes and produce, plus one evening at the Gazza Ladra restaurant, which we encourage everyone to try. I would like to mention that the mattress was extremely comfotable, something that I normally struggle with in Italian hotels. Finally, the value for money was very good!

La Gazza Ladra was the most inventive meal in SIcliy; the room was incerdibly restored baroque era and wonderful. Service warm and friendly. Wine list very fine.

What a lovely place! Arrived in Modica by bus at the tail end of a long European trip and was enchanted by Modica and the lovely Palazzo. All amenities in the hotel were first rate and well thought out-I could have arrived with almost nothing and been fine! My only regret was arriving rather late on a Saturday, and leaving on a Monday-many things were closed due to local custom. The hotel has a fabulous afternoon walking tour of Modica with a very knowledgable guide- ours was Sabrina (she was extremly nice, and knew her history!) After the tour, Signore Failla himself picked us up in the Bassa (lower town) and drove us back to his beautiful, historic hotel. The hotel is a bit tough to find, but if one just starts walking upwards (up the stairs) it is at the top of the hill. Of course, we got lost first time out, and the hotel cheerfully arranged transport for us to the hotel. Food service was top rate- although we did not eat at the Michelin starred restaurant, we did enjoy the small ristorante owned by the Palazzo (more informal). The breakfast served each morning was very nice, as well. This small hotel is definitely worth a stay, and is a nice base for exploring surrounding Baroque towns. At the end of the stay, Signore Failla took us to the bus stop himself-which speaks a lot to the hospitality and guest oriented approach this hotel strives for. I could go on, but I won't-visit yourself! I know I would love to return...

We had some trouble finding the hotel but after asking we realised we had driven right past it. Just go to Modica Alta and stop on piazza St Teresa as Palazzo Failla is located just around the corner. You'll probably notice the nice coffee place /bakery first.

As parking is difficult we stayed on the square to ask where we could leave the car. We were immediately told not to worry and that would be taken care of and our luggage brought to the room. We got a warm welcome and were taken to our room located in the dependance, in a side street just around the corner.

Our room was roomy, elegant and tastefully decorated with all the amenities you could wish for plus our own personal computer! There was no bath but we had a modern shower with hydromassage and sauna built in! The babycot for our 1 year old was there as we requested and nothing seems to be much to trouble.

The dependance furthermore has a nice terrace for the summer months.

We felt so much at home that we decided to stay in and order room services from 1 of the 2 excellent restaurants. One is more upscale and has a micheli nstar and the other restaurant is more tratoria style but had won a price for best affordable tratoria. We ordered room service from the tratoria. We did not have to wait long and the food, nicely displayed on a table, was rolled into our room and was just delicious. If the 'cheaper' restaurant was this good already then we wondered how the Michelin starred restaurant would be.

Both the room and the Palazzo have many authentic Sicilian features and are tastefully decorated.

We stayed 2 nights in the Ragusa province (the other night in Eremo della Giubiliana hotel) and with hindsight we would have happily stayed here both nights (or more) to explore this region.

After a very relaxing night with good food, use of the sauna (satellite TV and PC) we had to remind ourselves that we still needed to go out and explore Modica.

We headed to the main building where breakfast is served in an elegant room and consisted of all local fresh products. The fresh ricotta was sooo good!

In addition this was the first hotel during our roundtrip in Sicily, we started in Palermo, that had a highchair for babies (later in Syracuse we found a second hotel). Bonus points again. We lingered for a long time at the breakfast table and enjoyed a second cappuccino in the reading room next-door before having to say goodbye.

All the staff were wonderful and super friendly and helpful. I cannot emphasise this enough.

Thanks again for a memorable stay.

We were travelling with our 1 year but we would highly recommend this hotel to couples seeking a romantic stay and the more demanding traveler.
