A Putia ro Vinu is hidden in the beautiful narrow streets behind Modica's old city center. The best way to get a guided tour around the surprising Iblean cuisine, is to have a go at the restaurant's menu (15€), which is very elaborate, from the wonderful scacce modicane, to the typical broths, home-made pastas and succulent meat. The ravioli filled with fresh ricotta and served in a delicious sugo di maiale is amazing. All dishes can be ordered separately as well (about €5 for a pasta dish). The local Nero d'Avola red wine makes it all complete. Do not forget to order a cannolo in the end!

went to this on loney planet's recommendation. the food was authentic, the waiting staff were really nice taking the time to explain the menu and the dishes on it. the restaurant itself is the kind of place you find locals in, nothing fancy. would def recommend this place.

The trattoria is located in a narrow street in Modica Bassa just a few metres away from Corso Umberto, the main road.
The ambience is rustic and traditional which renders the place quite unique.
The menu comprises a wide selection of traditional Modican food. The mixed antipasto, pasta with homemade pesto, polpette (meatballs), spezzatino di carne (meat stew), coniglio (rabbit) and Sicilian caponata are all absolutely mouthwatering. The cannolo alla ricotta is also second to none, so make sure you leave some space for it for dessert.
The prices are also reasonable for the quality offered. Even though English is not spoken fluently by the staff, their friendliness surely makes up for it.

after a long drive across sicily, we arrived in modica, and had the recommendation from the owner of our hotel to try this place for dinner. as it was a short walk in a quaint alley nearby, we were a little tired, and ready for some simple modican food. we were immediately charmed with the simple kitchen atmosphere, and the smell of home cooking. the service was reserved but welcoming, as if we were entering a family home. after looking at some options on the menu, the waiter verified that the food was all made by hand, and what were the typical local dishes that were more popular. it helps very much to speak italian, but you can get by. we decided on the antipasto plate, a very traditional local variety including hard boiled eggs, and it was sumptuous! after the large antipasto we had only one plate each of pasta, the ravioli with spinach and ricotta, and pork sauce typical of modica, and handmade noodle soup with broth and tiny hand rolled meatballs....delicious. after enjoying the leisurely atmosphere we were pleased to see the cost was not high for the simple meal that we enjoyed very much.
