“Poor service and noisy”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

The rooms in the new wings are ridicously noisy, small and uncomfortable. They would need a redoing, everything looks old and even a bit dirty. The pool is small but nice, too bad that it is almost always occupied by weddings, so not accessible to the guests.
Too noisy are the weddings too, and they last until night.
The room are not very expensive, but what you get is really not enough. Breakfast is a joke.
Too bad, because the location is beautiful.
The rooms in the old wings are better.

Room Tip: try to book a room in the old wing

Stayed here for several nights. Had a large room, at a very reasonable rate (c85e). Good sized swimming pool, and extensive gardens made it a quiet oasis from the bustle of central Martina Franca, which is only a few minutes walk away.

They do occasionally host events - eg large family dinners - in the grounds - there was one during our stay - which can go only fairly late at night - but this wasn't a major issue.

As a rule, the clientele tend to be getting on a bit, so good if you want somewhere sedate to stay.

Breakfast was good, with plenty of tables outside set attractively in the gardens.

Really very good value all things considered. Would happily stay here again

This hotel was surprisingly delightful. A bit faded in areas which are quickly overlooked by the attentive staff ready to help. The garden setting is magical especially on a warm summer eve. The rooms are adequate and the beds are comfortable. It is a short walk to the Centro Storico.
We dined two evenings t the hotel. The dinner was exceptional at a reasonable cost. Lots of fresh fish on the Menu. The lock Primitivo(local) wine was not disappointing.

We would return to this find

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the garden.

As stated, the hotel is situated in a park like garden in the center of Martina Franca. It radiates a kind of oldfashioned 'chique', with waiters in uniform, heavy keys, dressed tables in the garden. If you close your eyes you can imagine yourself somewhere in the beginning of the last century.

The rooms are a bit more rundown (at least ours), but sufficient, and we had a beautiful view of the garden and pool.
Breakfast was served on the 'patio' of the hotel in the garden.

The only thing that spoiled our stay and made us leave the next day was a very loud fair right next to the hotel that went on till 2 at night. Not the hotels fault and we were told that from next year this yearly fair would be held outside of the city.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the garden view. The elevator is the typical Italian small hotel thing, so if you do not...

I stayed here for a couple of nights, on business. It's in an airy position, in its own gardens. A former private residence, it's full of unexpected nooks and crannies, with some interesting little salon areas, furnished with vintage pieces, near to the meeting rooms of various sizes. There's a very grand sweeping staircase almost worthy of 'Gone With the Wind'! The reception area is large with seating and a display of what I think may have been the work of local artists. Definitely not to my taste, but may suit others.
My bedroom, on a corner, was very large with a side window and French doors opening onto a balcony which ran the length of the building and gave a good view of the pool and garden. Oddly, in such a grand building, the bedroom furnishings were made of cheap looking wood laminate, but with classic soft furnishings. I don't think that there was any air conditioning in the bedroom - I didn't see any - but with the big windows and high ceilings, the warm April weather was no problem. There was a very large bathroom, with a jacuzzi bath. I didn't use it (I struggle to get out of a bath) and the hand held shower with no shower curtain took some ingenuity to use, but I managed!
I had a delicious lunch in the restaurant, and a dinner. Both very good and with excellent service from the only waiter I ever saw there (also at breakfast). He really was a gem, and spoke very good English too. He coped wonderfully well with the large coach party I saw at breakfast one day. Breakfast was varied and plentiful: give yourself time on your first morning to wander through the various interlinked rooms and find it all!!
I didn't really have the opportunity to wander, but I believe that if you exit via the garden it's only a very short walk into the historic centre: I think I saw a small supermarket just opposite the garden entrance too.
I spent a delightful couple of hours relaxing on the comfortable outdoor furniture in the garden. The hotel can take large groups, but there is so much public space both inside and out that other guests don't need to feel overwhelmed.
There is a large car park, and there is a lift to the bedrooms. I don't think wheelchair users would find it very easy, though.

I would certainly be happy to stay here again.

I have stayed at this hotel many times. Accomodations are satisfactory, room is clean, staff is friendly with several fluent in English, French, and German. The parking lot is large, a plus as that is not the case with many in town Italian hotels. The location for this hotel is ideal, with many shops and restaurants in easy walking distance. The local Wed. am market is right outside the door and a fantastic place to browse and shop all kinds of things: fish to furniture. Just beware the shower/tubs are a bit weird, ask for a shower only room if you want a real shower. Otherwise it is a large jetted tub with an attached hose which generally sprays the entire floor with water. Makes it hard to wash your hair. Also the internet is pretty slow so you wont' be doing much except checking email -- not useful for really working from the hotel. A few rooms have a desk built into the credenza/bureau, but most only have a small vanity table so not really useful for working. The gardens are wonderful and really nice to walk. Restaurant is good although menu doesn't change much over time. Be aware: this is a popular stop for bus tours of seniors during summer and fall. You can get overwhelmed by two busloads of tourists at a time, which leaves the single guest feeling a bit ostrasized when the groups "take over" the dining room. This is not a deliberate action of the staff but more the attitude of the tourist groups; some groups are very open and loose and other groups are clique-ish and it just depends.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the gardens or a shower only room

I recently stayed for 5 nights with a friend on a visit to Martina Franca as my parents stay in the area and we really enjoyed our time here. The hotel provided everything we needed and the service was great.

We had booked a twin room and were given a room with two bedrooms, large bathroom and big terrace! The rooms were very spacious, clean and well equipped with large wardrobes, mini fridge and flat screen tv's in both rooms (although we didn't turn them on once). The room was serviced every day and we had plenty of towels and fresh biscuits were put in the room every day. The bathroom only had a bath with a shower attachment so a stand up shower was not possible but this didn't really bother us. Worth asking the hotel if there are rooms with stand up showers if you would not be happy with this arrangement.

Breakfast was good with enough choice and you can eat inside or out. We had some lunch twice and were well catered for. The staff and service were great. They provided beach towels for the pool, wi-fi is free and they let us check out late in the afternoon on our last day without a problem. Most notably our waiter at breakfast and lunch was very nice. He made sure we had everything we needed but equally left us to relax and enjoy things. He spoke good English so was able to give us advice and chat about the area. The reception was also helpful when needed. My friend got an eye infection and they actually went to the pharmacy with her to help explain!

The grounds of the hotel are really pleasant with lots of greenery, seating areas and a nice pool area where we happily spent every day. The hotel did not seem to have many other guests which we enjoyed but they did have a lot of evening functions on. We quite enjoyed seeing this and it didn't interfere with our stay as the place is big enough to accommodate this and guests and there was no noise when we slept. There is a super market over the road, the we'd market is right on the doorstep and it is a 5 minute stroll to the shops, caves and restaurants of the lovely martina franca.

Although this hotel is not modern luxury and perhaps lacks one or two expectations of a 4 star I have given our stay 5 out of 5 as the hotel more than delivered on what we needed and surpassed our expectations in terms of the space and service we were given. I will be returning again!

Room Tip: Email or speak to hotel in advance about most suitable room? We had room 29 which was spacious, clea...
