Villa San Raffaello
Reviewed July 10, 2013

We arrived at Villa San Raffaello after an exhausting week of sightseeing in Rome. It was the perfect antidote. It's location, just a kilometre from the enchanting medieval town of Sarnano meant that shops and restaurants were nearby whilst at the same time the Villa's rural location provided peace, quiet and tranquility vital for a relaxing break. The old farmhouse has been brilliantly converted into four apartments and the pool and grounds were a delight. Damian was on hand to answer any questions and give advice and even took us and some of the other occupants for an amazing walk over the hills. This is also the perfect base for exploring this part of Le Marche.

Room Tip: Apartment Elisa was perfect with it's own balcony.

We just got back from this extremely fortunate find! 3 days wasn't long enough, we will have to go back! 2 kids, master 3 and miss 7, as soon as they saw the DVDs, books, huge outdoor garden, pool and their own room in apartment Damiano, they settled right in. We were hooked when I saw the sample red wine and hammock in the garden.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It's a bit out there but that gave it all its charm! Thank you Damien, the kids adored you and we loved every minute of it even the grass cutting episode :-) not to mention live streaming rugby!!!

Just come back from my first visit to Le Marche and stayed at the excellent Villa San Rafaello which is close to Sarnarno, nestling in the Sibilini mountains.

The views are spectacular and the accommodation was lovely. We had a self-contained two bedroom apartment. The pool was great and had plenty of room to lounge around.

There are plenty of things to do in and around Sarnarno, and the little village has a nice little buzzy atmosphere with some great restaurants.

If you want to experience the real Italy, this is the place to come.

I have just come back from a 5 day break at the lovely Villa San Rafaello, which is run by Damien & Sharon. They couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful.

Our apartment had a lovely balcony with a fabulous view of the picturesque town of Sarnarno which is less than 1 km walk away. There are a good number of bars and restaurants that make for a great night out. Needless to say the food and wine was fabulous!

The swimming pool is much bigger than I have found on previous trips in Italy, and the views in all directions from poolside are unspoilt and really helped us to unwind.

Can’t recommend a trip out here strongly enough !!

I made my second visit to villa San Raffallo in May 2013, four years after my first, and I wouldn’t have believed that it could get much better, but it has. Amongst other attractions, the villa offers fantastic accommodation, and a lovely swimming pool with large ground’s, which has spectacular views of the charming town of Sarnano, as well as wonderful views of the mountains. Everything that you would need for a relaxing holiday is close to hand. Sarnano (which is walkable) is a lovely friendly town with many bars, restaurants and shops including butchers and bakers and a local market. The villa is also perfectly placed for walking in the countryside and in the mountains. On my walks I encountered wild boar (thankfully at a safe distance), deer, kestrels and many other wild birds and also wild flowers. There are easy circular walks that you can access straight from the villa, or for the more adventurous a short drive towards the mountains will afford you fantastic walks with beautiful views. I must also give special mention to the local food, which is very good but the pasta dishes are extra special, truly delicious. I would recommend this holiday to anyone who has a passion for travel, culture, food and of course wine… Let’s not forget the wine!

Back again to Villa San Raffaello after a 5 year break and it's just as good as the first time.

This time I brought some old footballing buddies with me for a long weekend of hiking and reminiscing. We had a very enjoyable time exploring the Sibillini mountains and Lago Fiastra, courtesy of our host and guide, Damien.

The hamlet of Sarnano is particularly interesting, especially the Centro Storico which exudes historical character.

The villa itself provides a great deal for visitors, including a swimming pool, recently planted vineyard, various loggias and varied gardens. If you manage to stay in Apartment Elise, you'll love the verandah above the courtile with its spectacular views of Sarnano, nestling in the hillside just below the Sibillini peaks.

Altogether a great place to visit and highly recommended. AGAIN!!
