“Spring break in the mountains”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Back again to Villa San Raffaello after a 5 year break and it's just as good as the first time.

This time I brought some old footballing buddies with me for a long weekend of hiking and reminiscing. We had a very enjoyable time exploring the Sibillini mountains and Lago Fiastra, courtesy of our host and guide, Damien.

The hamlet of Sarnano is particularly interesting, especially the Centro Storico which exudes historical character.

The villa itself provides a great deal for visitors, including a swimming pool, recently planted vineyard, various loggias and varied gardens. If you manage to stay in Apartment Elise, you'll love the verandah above the courtile with its spectacular views of Sarnano, nestling in the hillside just below the Sibillini peaks.

Altogether a great place to visit and highly recommended. AGAIN!!

Recently spent a long weekend at this villa with some friends. What an excellent location, complete solitude around the pool but just a 15 minute walk from the excellent town of Sarnano. The villa is fantastic, and from the look of the book of photos, lovingly restored from quite a bad state. I had the double en-suite room - no complaints there! Plenty of room within the villa to find you own space if the weather is poor, but best to get outside by the pool. Magnificent views of the mountains dotted with various birds of prey swooping down to nearby fields. Locally produced wine is 3 Euro a litre, and not much more at the local eateries. Food is also good value - the local wild boar well worth having.Fantastic walking and hiking, yet we hardly saw another soul - most odd, but still early in the season

Our family of 4 spent Easter 2013 break at Villa San Raffaello...what a great choice we made. This was our first trip to Italy. We wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle of the big cities for a relaxing yet scenic vacation. We could not have picked a better place. The villa was very comfortable and the owners always accessible for questions and advice on what to do and see. The drive up the mountain to the ski resort was a lot of fun. We even got snowed on...which the kids loved!! Going over the pass through the small town of Bolognola then on to Lago di Fiastra was absolutely beautiful. As another reviewer mentioned, visiting the gorge at Gola dell'Infernaccio is a must. Absolutely beautiful! As for the food in the surrounding towns, as well as Sarnano, all I can say is YUMMY! After fun filled days in the countryside, we all looked forward to coming home, stoking a fire, enjoying some local wine and cheese and just relaxing. We truly enjoyed our time at Villa San Raffaello and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a memorable experience.

We spent an amazing week here during the Easter holidays 2012. A beautiful villa, lovingly restored set against the most spectacular backdrop of the Sibillini Mountains. An amazing view whilst sitting by the pool, watching the landscape changing with the light. The picturesque town of Sarnarno, with its locally produced food market, gelaterie, cafes and bars open till late with live music meant the whole family was catered for even the teenagers!. A memorable trip to Amandola for ice-cream and then on to the breathtaking gorge at Gola dell'Infernaccio to walk it off!!. Most of the time we were all just happy to be around the villa enjoying the spacious accommodation and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a tasteful and inspirational holiday.

We stayed here (in Grazia) for a week in August 2012. It is such a beautiful place and the accommodation is great - practical yet with home comforts. Our holiday could have been a disaster as our hire car broke down after a couple of days and no replacement was available (note: avoid Sixt hire company at all costs) but Damien and Sharon offered us their car to go and hire another one from another hire company in Macerata. We would otherwise have been completely stranded. This was only one instance of their kindness. They are really lovely people and we cannot recommend the villa highly enough. Thank you, Damien and Sharon and happy new year.

Exploring Marche we found this piece of paradise just a few km outside the gorgeous town Sarnano and a relatively short drive from beautiful Ascoli Piceno and the Appenines. A restored wineyard of some sort, Villa San Rafaello is both pieceful and quiet and offers the perfect family hangout. We especially enjoyed the pool with its quiet surroundings, the sunflowers and the hammocks distributed among the vines. The appartment in particular however was a pleasurable surprise as it is beautifully restored as well as tastefully decorated.

What a pleasant surprise at the end of our first trip to Italy. Villa San Raffaello and its gracious host, Damien, provided great guidance and suggestions in our search for connections to ancestors. We would not have succeeed without suggestion from him. The Villa provides a very comfortable plce to relax after exploring this beautiful region. Not overrun by tourists, Sarnano is an easy walk with great restaurants and stores. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer to explore the countryside. We definetely will return again.
