“fantastic view, excellent hospitality”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

the views of land and sea from this B&B, perched in the hillside of one of the villages considered as one of the most beautiful in italy are breath taking. the location may be a bit hard to reach, but the advantage of that is that its surroundings are not over run bu tourists...

alex and pat(and pika the dog!) are excellent hosts, preparing a lovely breakfast to complement the view and serenity...both rooms are carefully deocrated and spotless.

we would definitely loved to have stayed longer, and to return!

This is the most wonderful place to stay during a trip to the Cinque Terre. I stayed with my girlfriend for 4 nights and Pat and Alex made it an absolutely splendid experience. As young people traveling together, it's difficult to find accommodation to suit our needs, but Pat and Alex treated us so well and were the most helpful hosts imaginable. The breakfast (and cappuccinos) were great, but our hosts went above and beyond - they were more than willing to give us pointers on how to avoid crowds, where the best sites were (both in the Cinque Terre and the surrounding area) and their favourite restaurants in the area. They helped us plan out our hiking routes for the day, and gave us schedules for the trains, which were super convenient and affordable. Pat and Alex's place is a short walk up the hill from the train station - it takes only about 10 minutes. The suite itself was clean, quiet and had more than enough space for the two of us, with a comfortable bed and all the amenities you could imagine. The view of Moneglia from the suite was breath-taking, as was the view from the terrace where we ate breakfast each morning. Moneglia was my favourite town compared to the Cinque Terre - it was much more laid-back, has a fantastic beach and a nice walkway along the waterfront. Overall, this was a splendid experience staying at Sussurri di Mare with Pat and Alex.

I stayed at Pat and Alex’s bed and breakfast with my boyfriend for four nights in April. We stayed in their suite and it was more than we could have asked for. The decoration was lovely, the little kitchen was fully equipped for preparing simple meals, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. Everything was very clean and well taken care of.

We’re both in our twenties and were very keen to hike the Cinque Terre and also to lounge by the beach. Their bed and breakfast provided the perfect opportunity to do both of these things. Pat and Alex's beautiful home is perched in the mountains overlooking the quaint town of Moneglia and the Mediterranean Sea. They were gracious hosts and prepared a delicious breakfast of freshly baked goodies, jams, juice and cappuccinos for us every morning, which we ate in their garden while taking in the stunning scenery.

The views and the surrounding area is fantastic and there are numerous trails to hike, as well as several great surrounding beaches. The train system also made it very easy to get around to surrounding villages, so there was always lots to do. While the Cinque Terre was a good hike, Pat and Alex were extremely helpful in pointing out other great routes around their home which were just as beautiful, far less crowded and more enjoyable. It was also nice to escape the very touristy towns that make up the Cinque Terre route and to return to their quiet, calm home after a long day of hiking.

I would highly recommend staying with Pat and Alex! Both they and their home were fantastic!

We stayed with Patty and Alex in September 2012, as part of our motorbike holiday touring Europe and in particular Italy. This is the third time we have visited this coast and it is so superb and unique especially where they are placed, high on a cliff with stunning views of the bay and local town of Moneglia. If you want a holiday where you are away from all the rush of modern life then this is a great place to go, and with all the amenities you would want within walking distance.

Room Tip: Great place for people enjoying an outdoor holiday with local walks.

Sussurri de Mare is the most wonderful place to relax and enjoy the best of Italy. Friends of ours recommended this charming bed and breakfast last summer and after much deliberation(do we go to the US to see family, stay in France, fly to Croatia or drive down to Italy) we chose Moneglia because of the pictures. It seemed gorgeous. And it was! Not only was the location fabulous, the house was charming and our hosts, Patty and Alex were the best. We were so warmly welcomed that knew immediately that we had made the right choice. They remained available if we needed something and discrete if we just wanted to relax. Perfect for us.
Breakfast every morning was a joy. The view overlooking the bay below is just breathtaking. The pergola served us well during our stay. After a morning swim, we would wander the shops in town and pick up what we needed for a light lunch. It invariably included fabulously fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, fresh fruits and of course Italian wine. We would come back and prepare lunch in the kitchen and spend a leisurely lunch listening to the birds and enjoying the scenery. Afternoon naps became the routine partially because it was so hot and partially because we just needed the rest.
Afternoons often included another swim down at the beach. The walk down the hill was good exercise and it gave me the chance to pick some of the freshest figs I have eaten, right off the trees.
For dinner we often took the advice of our hosts and other times we just took a chance and discovered something new. Every restaurant we went to was wonderful. Coming back to the comfortable suite at the end of a long, leisurely day was a delight. The quality of the linens and bedding was irreproachable. Fresh towels just appeared miraculously when we really didn't expect that level of service.
We are planning on going back again this summer because we can't think of a better place to spend a perfect vacation. This time though I really do need to find out where Alex gets the foccacia he serves at breakfast. I would move to Italy for that bread alone.

Sussurri De Mare is a uniquely special experience--paradise on earth !

We have had the privilege of travelling through Europe for decades and, while we live in Philadelphia, we have owned more recently an apartment in Paris where we spend more than four months per year. When we now travel outside of Paris, it is only to experience something we believe will be memorable. Based on the recommendation of friends and pictures on-line, we chose last summer to spend five days at Sussuri Di Mare. If anything, our hopes and expectations were exceeded. The home is refreshingly open to gorgeous panoramic views of the magnificent Bay of Moneglia, the charming town, its beach, and the surrounding hills.
The charming private guest suite on the lower level of the house is fully equipped. It has its own kitchen and sitting room adjoining the bedroom and bath. It has floor-to-ceiling entrance doors, & large windows in the bedroom which benefits from the bay breezes, so that we rarely used the air conditioning.
There are terraces up and down the property, which were a perfect backdrop to the unparalled yet non-intrusive hospitality of the personable and even entertaining proprietors, Patty and Alex Azaro. And their culinary skills led to fabulous meals. They also were our knowledgeable companions and tour guides to local sites--such as the magnificent Portofino & the amazing Cinque Terre. They were assiduous in assuring that our stay was perfect, and indeed it was more than that--it was truly memorable.
The greatest tribute we can pay is that we are returning this summer!

I have had the good fortune to stay at Sussurri Di Mare several times. Every visit is wonderful. Mornings are perfect for a quiet cup of coffee or a brisk walk or run. The view is absolutely spectacular. With the town of Moneglia nearby, I can browse the shops and enjoy a walk on the beach. Patty and Alex are supremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area. They can quickly help you out with train schedules, places to visit and more. What a treasure, I can't wait to return!
