Hotel Villa Edera & La Torretta
Ranked #1 of 12 Hotels in Moneglia
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 3, 2009

We stayed at the Villa Edera for 7 nights -half board - in July 2009. Superior room, clean, air-conditioned with a large balcony. Safe parking for our car, a short walk downhill to the beach/town. The gradient of the hill is not as bad as other reviewers have made out, likewise the train noise from the convenient, nearby station is not intrusive. Pleasant gardens and swimming pool. Hotel spotless, staff friendly, with a good choice of menu each evening and breakfast. Local wine choice each evening if desired. If arriving by car follow the instructions on the website not the GPS! Good value for money. Convenient for sight-seeing day trips ie., Pisa, Lucca & Portofino. Is also a good base for walking holidays following the cinque terre routes. Very good communication when booking hotel. We would definitely visit Villa Edera and Moneglia again.

We stayed a week, a sommer week with the almost impossible aim to satisfy the children need for playing, the adults need for relax and experiencing Liguria, and the overall need for sun, beach, and warmth. We arrived to Hotel Villa Edera after passing 5 one-way tunnels - you kind of loose direction! But we got back to the sun and a narrow way up the cliff. There was the Hotel. Charming, but still we couldn't guess its potential. We were received by the most smiling person in the all Liguria, she showed us the whereabouts of the place. But "SMILE" was what we received from all employees at the Hotel. It felt like everybody was there to help or please. I have never felt so welcome! The facilities were perfect from the swimming pool to the training room, to breakfast and dining room. The culinary experience to the best! The patience shown to the children impeccable! Once again and only to keep it "short": Thank you Villa Edera!

Depending on your travel requirements this hotel could be a good fit or not.
I typically stay in 4 or 5 star hotels. I'll make it short and sweet,

Service was pretty good, their is an older swiss lady who is a delight and then the owner who is good but not accomadating.

Location was the main downfall, as the other review made a point the hotel is up on a hill and at the end of the day it gets old hiking up a 3rd or 4th time. As far as Moneglia goes I'd preferred Santa Margherita.

If you like to hike and don't like to sleep then ignore this review you will love this hotel. I'm not one for bashing any hotel and i wouldn't this one either just know what you're getting into.

Breakfast was good.

BEDS were TERRIBLY HARD and they are not King size beds, two twins
put together.

we stayed five nights and walked the cinque terra tracks and visited Portofino, beautiful.
The hotel is located in a quiet environement, 5 minutes away from the strain station; no car needed.
although no sea view, the beach is 5 minutes walk.
friendly and helpful staff, they make you feel at home.

Had a week here and have nothing but happy memories. Rooms comfortable, clean and air conditioned. Quite a quirky little hotel but we soon relaxed. We ate in on four of our seven nights and service was very good. Nice range of courses which the girls in particular really enjoyed. With four courses, it meant they could give different things a try and not worry if it wasn't to their liking.

Pool very nice and we didnt understand the strees that some had about the trains. They were so few and far between and its Moneglia, not Clapham Junction for goodness sake. can honestly say we hardly noticed.

Moneglia a lovely little place, especially at night with lots of freindly bars and restaurants. We will go againone day, a lovely holiday; we would concur with all warnings about the walk from hotel to beach;;;if you have reasonable fitness, its really not an issue but may present problems for the less mobile.

Villa Edera is a gem of a small, family run hotel. I spent a very long time researching hotels in the Cinque Terre, and so many of the reviews that I read indicated inconsistent quality at some hotels.

I selected Villa Edera based on the positive traveler reviews on Trip Advisor. There weren't a huge number of reviews to read at that time, but what I read was very positive. I had my sister read the ones in German and those were postive as well. So we decided to try it, and we could not have been happier with our decision..

My family of four (me, husband and two teenagers) visited in
April 2008 and found the hotel to be very very clean, including the rooms. The decor is a little spartan, but personally I would trade that any day for the stringent cleanliness that we observed. This is not a luxury hotel by any means, but the most important details were attended to: high quality toiletries and robes provided, a decent breakfast (including gluten free baked goods), family staffmembers who believed in service but not intrusion, a nice pool area and other common sitting rooms.

We did not have dinner at Villa Edera, but they kindly arranged a table at The Palm, a fabulous local restaurant apparently owned by a friend. That was one of our most memorable meals in Italy.

Moneglia is a small town and it didn't take long to explore the commercial district. The beach is beautiful as is the area. We easily caught the local train for daytripping around the area.

I have nothing but good things to say about Villa Edera. It absolutely lived up to my expectations and my family agreed.

My 1st Italian visit was a memorable one.
We arrived at 10.30 pm. A beautiful meal was prepared which we thoroughly enjoyed after a 4 hr train journey.
Villa Edera became our hub from which we explored Cinque Terre
and beyond returning each evening to a wholesome repast.
Hotel is family run and personal.
Every request was attended to
.On our final morning we had to depart well before breakfast so sandwiches and coffee were prepared for us- Service indeed!
Highly recommended.

P.S Tea/coffee making facility in room would be welcomed.
