Warning! Beware of the unprofessional behavior of the owner of this hotel. We reserved a room in person for the following day, left a credit card number and cell phone contact number. When we arrived the next day to check in, the owner said the occupant of our room was staying an extra day, so too bad for us, these things happen.
That's it, they never bothered to call, even though they knew the room was unavailable, or help us with plans to find another hotel. They were extremely rude, and seemed to think it wasn't that big a deal since we were only staying one night.
After finding a new hotel in Moneglia, the front desk personnel of that hotel told us they're constantly getting people who thought they had a reservation with Villa Edera, but were dumped for a longer staying guest.
The owner of Villa Edera is an unprofessional, greedy discredit to her profession.

Travelling with an 18 month old restricts your choice: ideally we would have chosen the sister hotel of the Edera in Moneglia (the Abbadia), but they do not take kids! However, we spent a very enjoyable and restful 5 nights in the Cinque Terre courtesy of this family-run hotel.
The service is extremely friendly and the hotel is clean and well-appointed. Our room was of a decent size, with a modern bathroom, but its principal asset was a huge roof terrace of which our son took full advantage.
The clientele appeared to be dominated by walking groups, mostly from Scandinavia and German-speaking parts. The hotel is very well situated for access to the train station, but is not troubled by noise in spite of this. Most of the trains are of the local, trundling variety which again were a source of great pleasure for our son.
The breakfast is extensive and eclectic: fresh fruit, fresh breads, cereals, meats, cheeses etc etc with plentiful coffee. We had opted for half-board, and the quality of the evening meal was functional rather than delightful. However, it appeared to meet the needs/expectations of the other guests. We were always able to get milk (at ungodly hours) for our son - a significant plus.
The hotel has a good-sized swimming pool, for those who prefer their bathing away from the sea and sand. For everyone else, the beach (and town) are a 5 minute walk down the hill.
Overall, a pleasurable experience in a hotel offering a good standard of clean and functional accommodation in a great location for exploring the region.
One piece of advice: be prepared for the exit to the hotel from the road when coming from the West through the tunnels (see picture!). We missed it first time around and had to wait to come back.

The Villa Edera was a great location in between Portofino and the Cinque Terre. The town itself is lovely and just beautiful. We like nice, friendly, great service and cleanliness with culture, and this town and hotel suited us perfectly. My sister and I looked forward to coming back to Moneglia and the beautiful view from our hotel.

What they do not brag about ( which I think they should) is there award winning environmental resort ranking! You would never know because they do everything quite effortlessly. The femaile manager was just terrific as she spoke 4 languages while giving great insight on places to see. The cleaning staff was great and all of ther natural soaps, shampoos, etc. were a great treat after a long day!

P.S. For those of you traveling via train,, great location. Pack light!

Three generations of a family.
We stayed for seven nights half board in a double and a family room. They were described as "Comfort" rooms.
We had a very enjoyable stay .Everything was excellent. The rooms and the public rooms were decorated and furnished with Italian elegance and thoughtfulness, pleasing to the eye, nothing jarring, and immaculately kept. The breakfasts were everything one could look for(excellent) and the dinners were amazing. We did not eat ,nor were we offered ,the same thing twice during the whole week. It was extremely well- planned, delicious, beautifully -presented and well-balanced with fresh ingredients.
The staff were helpful, pleasant and kind--desk, bar, restaurant and rooms alike.
The facilities were all we could need. Elegant places to sit or to chat over a drink, lovely well-kept swimming pool and terrace, gym and sauna and lovely planting of garden areas.
We also liked Moneglia. It was a well-balanced,pleasing place; not too large or too small, pleasing to the eye with painted houses and plenty of beach. The transport facilities (train and boat) meant that it was not necessary to drive.
Finally, the surrounding scenery was beautiful with interesting walking. In all,a very successful family experience which we shall remember always.
