“A beautiful museum about a remarkable place”
Reviewed June 19, 2012

This is a beautifully designed, modern museum, with extensive exhibits on the lives of Blasket Islanders, the work they did on the island, their influence on the revival of the Irish language, and the books that they both wrote themselves and inspired in others. Definitely see the 20-minute introductory film.

If this area of Ireland interests you at all, before you go you should read the recently published "On an Irish Island" by Robert Kanigel, which will make you eager to see and visit the Islands themselves.

The museum also has a very comfortable cafeteria with free Wifi, and some spectacularly good fish and chips among other things. There is a modest fee to visit the museum, but not to use the cafeteria or bookshop.

Wow-talk about a history lesson! We had never heard of the people that lived on this island-it was fascinating and very well done. The museum is beautiful and very informative.

“very interesting and moving”
Reviewed June 13, 2012

Unfortunately, time didnt allow us to go to the real blasket island, so we visited the centre instead. We only found out about it following a chance conversation with someone we met whilst on the slea head drive, they recommended we went and we are very glad that we did. The centre tells the story of life on the blaskets. There are many photographs and displays and a very moving film which lasts about 20 minutes. The centre is very informative and interesting and has great views over the islands themselves. Highly recommended.

“A fascinating museum”
Reviewed April 13, 2012

A fascinating museum highlighting the history and culture of this unique Irish island community. The exhibits are excellent, and the building has been designed so that your visit culminates with a stunning view of the islands themselves. Not to be missed if you are in the area.
