“Holiday like a local in well equipped, spotlessly clean property”
Reviewed October 11, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

For our honeymoon we planned a trip around the Greek islands, determined to cover some of the less classically touristy locations. I was surprised I’d never heard of Syros despite it housing the capital of the Cyclades, constantly overshadowed by its glitzier, more expensive and noisier neighbour Mykonos (just an hour away by direct ferry). Researching further, it was clear that Ermoupoli was packed full of cultural opportunities, tavernas with delicious yet fairly priced food, cheap taxis and peaceful, beautiful beaches within a short drive of the city. However, I was concerned that given Syros wasn’t a main tourist hotspot that there wouldn’t be many high quality hotels to choose from. After a fair bit of internet hunting, I came across Minerva. While I was a bit apprehensive about not staying in a hotel at first (we’d never stayed in a holiday apartment before), the photos (especially *that* view), location and given details persuaded me to book. From the moment I was in touch with the owners (a lovely couple of young professionals from Athens, who speak excellent English) I understood how this place was far more than a business for them – more of a labour of love, with each and every detail carefully considered to create their perfect holiday home which I was fortunate enough to be able to rent for three nights.

They have a wonderful local lady supplying the keys and explaining everything about the property, it was just so homely, functional and spotlessly clean. There were separate towels for use in and out of the flat (the blue ones were perfect for the beach or the swimming platform a delightful stroll away), there was air-conditioning, every possible appliance/utensil available in the kitchen – oh and even a collection of movies that we enjoyed one evening when we wanted a quiet night in after a bottle of wine, cheese and charcuterie on the balcony overlooking the town and Aegean sea. We enjoyed their stocked bookcase and really felt like locals for a few days, it was just idyllic. Now we’re in two minds about staying in apartments for future vacations – concerned that we’re now spoiled and the next place might not live up to Minerva, while being excited to have found this potential new source of holiday enjoyment. There’s no need to look any further if considering a stay in Syros, if the place is available just get it booked ASAP!! Like us, you won’t regret it.

“Relax in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed August 12, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This is one of the most charming homes I have been to. Great quiet location, beautiful view of the harbour , stunning interiors . The perfect getaway. The apartment has been lovingly restored by Greek, professional owner, who has worked in London and speaks fluent English. He gave many precise recommendations for restaurants, etc which were all spot-on. The apartment was super-competently managed and cleaned during our stay to an immaculate standard. Bravo! Interiors were charming and beautiful. Imagine a small set in Homes and Gardens. This apartment perfectly combined being quietly above Ermoupoli so you can access the cultural stuff quickly yet catch a bus or take a car some 15 - 30 mins to the beaches. There is also a bathing platform 15 mins walk away for swimming whilst looking at up at the fading grandeur of the oldest parts of town. Sophistication 10/10.
