“Exactly what we expected...great week!”
Reviewed August 15, 2010

The description of the hotel given when we booked was spot on; basic room with tiny kitchenette and bathroom. The kitchen facilities weren't brilliant but like most people going to malia we either just snacked in our room (with food bought from the supermarket 50 metres from hotel..ideal!) or we ate out. Bathroom was a bit dodgy, the door didn't lock and the shower ran luke warm and quite weak...not that it mattered to us particularly.
I would say the hotel is the ideal location in malia, about a 4/5 minute walk to the strip at most...but once you're at the hotel, you can't hear the music or anything so providing people in the hotel aren't too bad...a good night's sleep is easily achievable! There is also a road directly opposite the hotel that will lead you to the beach in about 2 minutes...this is a quieter stretch of beach but has a nice bar/cafe and music playing and the guy working there is very friendly!
The bar attached to the hotel and pool is a really good place to start the night before heading to the strip, guys behind the bar really friendly and even came out with us on our last night!
Everyone staying in the hotel seemed to be about 18-24...we met some really good people there...and the security guard was pretty chilled about them being in our room at night and stuff although he is careful only to let hotel guests into the grounds. Some people have written that the security guard and hotel staff were rude and not helpful etc...i would have to disagree and say that in general they were polite and relaxed...always said hello when we went through reception and that.
Great week, would definitely go back to malia and stay here again.

Apart from the pool bar where an amazing family work, The hotel is AWFUL! The management sit by the stairs of the entrance shouting at everyone in greek threatening everyone, the rooms are ridiculously hot and air con is priced at 50euros which doesnt work properly. The safes arnt in your room theyre by reception for all to see, THE MAID WILL ROB YOU BLIND.. she tells you to ''give her 10 minutes'' or sit on the balcony, as she searches for your money, me and my friend in my room got robbed, it wasnt even just money lying around.. she was going into our luggage bags, into smaller bags and opening zips... the management then stick up for her (which makes me think theyre splitting the money) we got robbed, reported it to the hotel management and we got told 'if we dont like it move hotel' police didnt want to know and nor did the rep.. it was DEFINATELY the maid as we felt short of money the first time she came but couldnt prove it... so second time she came we counted the money.. she came in.. she left, we counted again and both 20euros down. she doesnt even clean the room.. she took our full bottles of pop.. yet left the empty bottles. She doesnt stop at money, she takes phones, ipods even magazines, anything she can keep or sell. But nobody wants to help you there. The security guard is also shocking, doesnt speak english, speaks in greek and when you dont understand him and he gets frustrated he pushes you and swears (in english)
Overall... pool, poolside and pool bar cant be faulted. Hotel and hotel management were disgusting! oh and on the malia strip.. look out for gypsys.. even young ones.. theyll surround you, offer you a glowstick to distract you while they empty your pockets.
You shouldnt have to feel vulnerable on holiday.. but here you really do have to be alert

overall, malia as a place was awesome!!! Stayed at this hotel 4 a week (6 20 yr old lads) this hotel was nicely located, as it was just off the strip and took less than 5 minutes to get there and back! rooms were basic but u got what u paid for! Pool nice and seemed lively also sports cafe next to pool always helped the hangover.
BUT, dont keep any money in the room, be it in ur pocket, suitcase or in draws, the cleaner will find it and steal from you! we told the rep and she didnt seem to do much as we couldnt prove it so next time she was meant to come we left money out to check it was her and, not to our surprise, when we got bk the money had gone! also we had 3 rooms, and 2 out of the 3's air conditioning leaked and spat out clumps of ice! maybe worth the money but hotel staff didnt seem to care much about it! and just to warn u, the safes arent in ur room and the security guard speaks NO english!
However if u watch out for the cleaner, its a really good spot!

Before staying at Vergas hotel i was pretty confident that we wouldnt have any problems. However, we did not receive anything that was advertised.

1. we were told there would be 24hour reception- THERE WAS NO RECEPTION EVEN IN THE DAY TIME.

2. We were told there would be a security guard to help us with any problems- HE COULD NOT SPEAK ANY ENGLISH AND DID NOTHING WHEN BOYS FOLLOWED US IN TO OUR ROOM.

3.We were told when we booked that we would be able to pay for a safety deposit box in our rooms- THE BOX'S WERE NOT IN OUR ROOMS- THEY WERE IN FULL VIEW IN RECEPTION AND COULD EASILY OF BEEN STOLEN AS THEY WERE NOT ATTACHED TO THE WALL OR EVEN CHAINED TO ANY THING.

4. We were told a cleaner would come to our rooms twice a week- THE FIRST TIME SHE CAME IN WE CAUGHT HE STEALING MONEY THAT WE HAD HIDDEN IN A SUITCASE!!

5. We had payed for air conditioning for the week which leaked all over the floor and balcony when on a cold temperature

6. The electrics were unsafe as we had wires coming out of the walls...

ive been to greece many times. i went to zante last year for the same type of clubbing holiday. i knew it was 2 star so all i expected was a basic accomodation. However, being a group of 4 18year old girls, we needed to feel safe (the reason why we were persuaded to stay at vegas). We ended up flying home on the 4th night due to a group of boys climbing on to our balcony, banging on our doors and trying to get in.. shouting abusive and disgusting things at us. The security guard did nothing. The rep (who we only saw once in 4 days) told us to "wait it out" but because we felt we were likely to be raped or get our passports stolen we had to pay £200 each for flights home early.

NEVER STAY AT VERGAS IF YOUR A GROUP OF GIRLS BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT FEEL SAFE.

A friend of mine and I booked this holiday as a last minute spur of the moment thing in order to meet up with some friends already out there on holiday. We booked it on the Friday, and our flight was on the Tuesday. Booking so late, we weren't expecting too much, and with a 2 star hotel we were expecting even less. How wrong we could have been.

For a start ignore the 2 star rating, we saw many 3 star apartments that didn't even come close to these rooms. Secondly, the pool here is by far one of the best in Malia, and comes with a great atmosphere to match.

Thirdly, and the part that makes this hotel what it is, is the pool bar at the front of the hotel. Although a separate business in its own right, the hotel works well with it, providing great food, great atmosphere, and some of the friendliest staff you will ever meet. It also shows any sporting event around the world courtesy of its oversized satellite dish.

Also, the maid doesn't barge into your room as I have previously experienced and will come back later if your still a drunken mess from the night before.

So overall, a great hotel, surpasses all expectations and well worth a visit to the pool bar even if you don't choose this hotel (which would be a mistake).

Me and my friends were a bit aprehensive about booking to go to the vergas hotel as there was only one review on the internet we could find, but we booked it because it was cheap and had a security guard, as a group of 5 young girls we decided this would be best for us. When we got to the hotel we were pleasantly suprised by what it looked like..even though it was 2 am, the pool looked so nice! When we walked in the security guard was waiting for us to come and immediately took our passports..the problem was that he didn't speak very good english so we were a bit worried...however we were happy because they put them in a safe place with our room number on so we did not have to worry about loosing it! In the morning we weren't wrong about the veiw..as we looked out onto the pool from our balcony we could see the beach across the road. :) The staff at the bar are very welcomming and kind..we got given free shots on our first night before we went out...one thing i would say is to be careful how much you drink on the first night..we made the most of the deals (2 drinks, a shot and a fishbowl for five euros!!) and had to go back to the hotel early! Also...in the way of 'Self Catering' the cooker was tin and we only got given one pot..although this worked out fine becuase we ate out most of the time as it was so cheap and had another cooker and pot from out friend's room next door. This hotel was in the perfect location as we were only literally 5 or 6 minutes walk from the strip but it was away from the hustle of the strip at night..there were a few traditional greek restaurants by the hotel as well which were reasonably cheap. I would definately recommend this hotel..we had the best holiday and keep wishing to go back! The last point i will make is that the maid is a bit rude..she woke us up early and moaned at feet marks on the balcony..but she was doing her job and we were provided with clean towels which was fine! Also, the best time to shower is around 4 - 7 as the water is solar heated so at night the water is freezing...and the shower taps dont work too well...it was fine for us though as we spent the whole day in the pool! One last thing...if you get the chance to go to the waterpark on a day out..i would definately recommend it..was our favourite day!!

We stayed at the Vergas last August and got an amazing last minute deal with Olympic (we booked literally 4days before). We arrived late at night and my intial thought was oh my god what have we done. The place looked completely desterted and we had quite a few giggles as we got off the coach. My perspective soon changed as soon as we got to the swimming pool, easliy one of the best in Malia.
The hotel was the ideal distance from the main strip, alot of people I spoke to that stayed on the strip had not slept a wink.
The rooms are pretty basic but nevertheless clean. Apart from when my room mate left sweets in the cupboard and we got surrounded by ants (which will happen anywhere as proved in my office last week).
The side of beach the hotel is nearest to is lovely, much cleaner than the other side and alot less busy. 5mins down the road was activity advice and booking, we did a booze cruise with them which was better than the one we picked with olympic. Loads of shops and restaurants as well if you just want a chilled night away from the mental nightlife.
The family that own it are all really nice. The daughter and her husband run the bar at night, good music and lots of free shots - Raki yuk (if you thought Ouzo was bad be prepared for the real Greek drink Raki that reminds me of paint stripper).
Security was good, no one was getting past him! The hotel is a nice size, only 2 of us went and we bonded with quite alot of people especially one group of boys who we speak to reguarly (they are returning this August).
If I went back to Malia (which is a must) I think the only place I would stay at is Vergas.
