Overall, an okay place to stay, if only it weren't for the terrible service. The hotel owner was very rude, offered below average rooms, cold showers, and little-to-no wi-fi in the rooms. Possibly an anti-Semite but that hasn't been properly confirmed. We were offered no blankets, no extra towels, and the air conditioning costs a ludicrous amount of money. I love malia. The people here are usually very warm and welcoming. This hotel is the only place where we were truly treated with disrespect. On the plus side, it is very close to the beach and only a few minutes from some wonderful night clubs, but you could probably find other hotels that would offer the same benefits and more.

at first it didnt seem all that bad. The room me and a friend where given compared to my friends was horrible. someone had punched a hole in our door and it was covered with a butterfly sticker. How lame. The beds are screwed together and i found my bum on the floor for the majority of my time there. WE had ants in our kitchen. They say it is a self catering accommodation yet nothing in our kitchen worked. Hope your comfortable with seeing your friends shower and use the toilet as some of the toilet doors slam shut and you get stuck in them!
You cant eat your own food outside of your room as apparently they get taxed :s
there is a scary man that works there during the night that puts the fear of God into you if you so much as breath after 11. If you are a large group he doesn't allow you all to get ready and drink in the same room. He makes you leave by 12 if you do want to drink and have a good time. Bringing people back to the hotel is forbidden! they say they wil give you a fine if you ruin the sheet yet they are dirst when you show up! one of our friends showers turned on and wouldnt shut off. The sun beds are old!
One good thing its right next to the strip and mcdonalds!!

Room Tip: ask for a newer room!

My friends and I are just back from a trip here and had a great time! In a place like Malia location is everything and it honestly couldn't have been better!
It is a 5 minute walk from the beach but Not in a noisy location. It is also a 2 minute walk to all the best pubs, clubs and restaurants. Fantastic. The rooms are clean and the manager is a very nice Irish woman.
She provided a free upgrade and also let us use the room on the day of departure til 8pm.Very accommodating. There is a lovely bar and pool with this hotel. Had a ball!!

The older reviews for Stonewell Studios are really bad and are quite a shock to me. I visited Malia with a group of girls on a drinking holiday and our experience was nothing like these previous reviews and it is obvious that a lot has changed here in the last year.

We weren't originally meant to be staying at Stonewell Studios but we got transferred there a day before we were meant to arrive. This caused a lot of confusion and we were actually left with nowhere to stop. (This was not the Stonewells fault but the people we booked through) ...The receptionist (Irish lady) was so helpful and went out of her way to put us up.

The rooms are very basic there, but have got everything you need! Be warned though, the boiler is solar powered and so dont expect a hot shower after sun set!!!!!

The pool and bar area are clean, and both Yannis and Martha who work in the bar/restaurant are helpful and friendly! We had a good laugh with them both.

The hotel is literally a 5minute walk from the main strip! This is a bonus! A lot of our friends went to malia this year but they all stayed in old malia, which is a good half hour away from the strip!! Dont worry though, this hotel is enough of a distance for a quiet nights sleep, and just far enough for a drunken stumble home every night!! The beach is only round the corner and you are close to restaurants, banks etc.

There are a few things to be careful about though. The receptionist I mentioned earlier, the Irish lady, has got an evil side to her. She wasnt happy with us having other people in our rooms. Our room was like a communal room, the people we met around the pool who were also staying here always came up and we played drinking games before we went out etc. She wasnt happy about this and threatened to kick us out a few times. However, we soon learnt that she leaves the hotel for the night at 10.30 so just wait until after then for the party to start!!!

Also, if you are getting a transfer to the hotel from the airport make sure the bus driver drops you right outside the hotel!!! Our bus driver dropped us off right at the top of the main strip. We hadnt been to malia before and so we had no idea where our hotel was or where to head. We eventually got a taxi that ended up taking us another mile and a half down to the other end of the strip to our hotel and costing us 10€!!

We had a quality time in Malia and would recommend Stonewell Studios to anyone going on a drinking holiday with friends. We would definately return and use Stonewell Studios again.

Just got back from this hotel and I cant say many bad things about it. The location was great not too far from the strip or beach but far enough to get some kip (but who has kip in Malia?) Met some awesome people that wont be forgotten and Malia itself is amazing. Dont listen to bad reviews because no matter where you stay its what you make of it not what it actually is. Receptionist went a bit physco on us mind for playing drinking games but it was funny and we all just laughed it off. We'll definately stay here again when we come back to Malia. Yanis and Martha are awesome and very helpful.
