“Amazing family run apartments”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

We booked our hotel based upon glowing reviews from family members who have been back every summer for the past few years. Even with these high expectations we were not disappointed.
The apartments themselves were very clean, modern and well equipped, our deluxe studio was situated in the newest block of apartments. The room was fully equipped with air conditioning, TV (although most of the channels were in Greek) along with a wardrobe and safe.

The quality of the service supplied by the entire family was pure quality, food from the pool bar was extremely good and decently priced as were the drinks.

In terms of location, Kristalli is located slightly up the hill from old town/old village which means there are a great selection of restaurants nearby for those wishing to sample Greek cuisine (totto lotto, zorba's, san gorgio, milos and odas to name but a few).

The entire experience at Kristalli was as good as i have ever experienced, the entire family (nikos, eva, yannis and all the others) made our stay extremely memorable.

Would definitely go back again in the future and i would recommend Kristalli to anyone thinking of going to Malia.

We stayed in a deluxe studio with pool view for 1 week after hearing good things and great recommendations.
From the moment you leave your transfer coach/taxi and arrive at the hotel you feel welcome and are greeted by the wonderful family that run the hotel. Everyday we were greeted by the hotel staff wishing us a good day and giving us very helpful recommendations of beaches and places to visit. The rooms were very clean and spacious with our own private balcony - perfect to enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking the pool before heading to bed. The old town of Malia is only a short walk from the hotel with some very friendly traditional Greek restaurants providing the perfect romantic settings. The whole of Malia is full of lovely people, probably the friendliest in the world and we will definitely go back again in a couple of years and stay at Kristalli. It's a shame we can't stay in the same hotel wherever we travel in the world.
At the end of the week we were waved off by all the family when it was time to go home and felt a little sad to be leaving as we had been made so welcome.

I am just back from a 2 week holiday at Kristalli. As my all night party days are sadly behind me, I took a gamble that this hotel would be far enough from "the strip". Myself and my wife were not disappointed.

First the hotel itself - we stayed in a superior pool view studio, self catering. The room was very nice - basic, but big and very clean. My only gripe would be that we had two single beds as opposed to a double bed. The hotel is set in really nice gardens, that are very well maintained. There is also a good size pool, which like everything else at Kristalli, is immaculately maintained. From our ground floor balcony, we had a great view of the gardens and pool (room 203). There is music played around the gardens/pool all day however, which may not be your thing. We went to the beach everyday, so not an issue for us. What really sets Kristalli apart is the family who run it. The service that Nikos, Yannis, George and all the family provide is second to none. For the entire duration of our stay, nothing was too much trouble. The whole family are so friendly and we got excellent recommendations for which beach to go to, which restuarants, interesting places to visit etc. Even hiring a moped was taken care of by a phonecall from the hotel.

In terms of location, Kristalli is perfect for those looking to hit the strip and also those looking to avoid it. Less than 5 mins walk away is Malia Old town, which is a small maze of cobbled streets, opening up into 3 squares, and dotted with restaurants along the way. We loved it - the food was superb, and really good value. The Old Town restaurants are predominantly Greek, but as the food is so varied and delicious, there is something there for all tastes. There is a bar off the main square called Yanni's bar, would highly recommend a visit, Yanni himself is quite the character! the Old Town is quiet - restuarants are busy, but there isn't much in the way of taverna's to go to after your meal. As we wanted to switch off for our trip, this suited us perfectly. We didn't venture down to the strip at all, and from the Old Town, you wouldn't even know the strip existed. One problem with Malia is people on quad bikes. There are lots of them, and they fly around the place. Not too bad around Kristalli/Old Town however. As the beach is a decent walk away from the hotel, we hired a moped, and got directions to a locals beach about a 7 minute drive from the hotel - gorgeous beach with loungers to rent (€5 per day for two beds and an umbrella), public toilets just off the beach and a really nice taverna for lunch.

Our trip was a last minute booking, and I would definately return to Kristalli. George, Nikos and the whole family really made our holiday - thanks again guys!!

Room Tip: There is a nice feeling of space in the hotel - rooms are not on top of each other. Rooms overlookin...

The Kristalli Apartments are lovely apartments and more like a four star than three star. The family who run them are wonderful, making you feel very welcome from the start of your stay, even waving you off when you leave. The apartments are the cleanest I have ever stayed in, and very modern. The whole resort is maintained so well and very clean. The apartments are located in the old town of Malia with quite a few restaurants for you to use. The new town of Malia "the strip" is completely different and very noisy. It's nice to have a choice, but I have to say you do not hear any noise in Kristalli and if you do the owner is straight onto it. We hired a car for the week when we stayed in May and the owner showed us every couple of days where we should visit, we took his advice and followed his directions and enjoyed a very fulfilling holiday. Thank you all at Kristalli for makng our holiday so lovely.

The hotel is situated slightly up a hill, a quiet old malia location but with very easy walking distance to the bars. The staff at the hotel are very attentive and friendly and always acknowledge you and wish you a nice day. We stayed in a deluxe apartment with pool view which was large and clean. The pool and lounging areas are lovely, and the food served at the pool bar was very nice and fairly priced. Were also very impressed that next to the dressing table was one english plug socket! Brilliant for your hair straighteners!

My only slight negatives were that the TV had only one English speaking channel (bbc news 24..woop) and the weather was not great at our time of visit so there was literally pretty much nothing to do and we were incredibly bored during the day after a few days. My second slight niggle was that my friend and I who'd been out to the wee hours as you do were turfed out of bed by the maids who stood there until we got out of bed instead of coming back in 5 or 10 minutes when we'd got ourselves in a more suitable state. (With the apartment being so big we hadnt let them in we just heard them come in) It was like being told off by our mums or something!

Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to come to Malia it is the best there by a long shot! They will really look after you here. : )

Personally though I would not return to Malia as although the nightlife was fab, theres absolutely nothing to do during the day, and sadly the weather was a bit rubbish (couldnt even sunbathe!) and there wasnt a lot of restaurants to eat at. Youre basically stuck at Malia and Stallis (if you take a walk), its just like going to bridlington or an English seaside during the day - no good shopping or anything. Its a shame really that its let down by this as otherwise the destination would be great!

Room Tip: Get the deluxe apartment if you can. Its only a slightly bit more expensive and the difference betwe...

Just wanted to write a review for my stay in malia..

Me and a friend stayed at kristalli in july 2012, in the middle of a european adventure..
After spending 2 months travelling through the continent I would have to say that we received the best customer service and friendly atmosphere at Kristalli. As soon as you arrive you are welcomed in by the hotel owners and offered a free drink! Not a bad way to start your holiday in Crete I must say.

We stayed for a week and were always helped out by the hotel owners whenever we had an issue, or wanted somewhere cool to visit. By the looks and sounds from the other hotels in town, seems we were right in heading to this hotel, nowhere near as noisy as most of them, and the security guard was able to keep the youngsters in check when returning late from a night out. Will definitely be visiting again, but will probably try to miss the schoolies and go in the quieter time of the year, for the young people its the perfect place to relax/party after finishing school.

Thanks go out to Niko, George, Yiannis and the rest of the family... you guys made our holiday and are absolute champs! hope to see you guys soon for some more raki and good times.

Just got back from an excellent stay with my large extended family. We chose this resort as we have a number of young adults with us who wanted to sample the reputed nightlife. They had a great time but so did we. The staff at Kristalli recognised we weren't all looking to party all night and sleep all day and made a point of recommending beaches to visit and restaurants (in the Old Town) to eat. They were especially helpful when my daughter requested a room change as she wasn't happy with her initial allocation.
As per other reviews I was a bit annoyed to find on arrival that aircon/safe was extra but was glad to have it in the end...you really will need it.
The hotel is very well placed being close (10 mins walk) but not too near the strip. The main beach is a little bit further.
The rooms are spacious and clean with light decor. I would rate standard rooms at 3 star and deluxe apartments at just below 4 (they are a little too spartan to merit a full 4). However, I don't think you could really cook much on the rings provided. This didn't bother us as we didn't intend to cook ourselves anyway.

Everybody from reception to cleaners and security were very friendly and I definitiely recommend this hotel. In fact everybody in Malia was really friendly thanks!!!
